Biden to receive award at Dem LGBT gala

Source: The Hill

Former Vice President Joe Biden will receive an award for advocating on behalf of the LGBTQ community at the Democratic National Committee’s annual LGBT Gala next month.

Biden will receive the inaugural LGBT hero award at the New York event, DNC chairman Tom Perez said in a Tuesday press release.

“I hope this ceremony serves as a testament to the strides we’ve made for equality and inspires us to imitate Joe Biden in our support for the LGBTQ community,” Perez said about the June 21 dinner.

Former President Obama’s two presidential campaigns won the backing from much of the gay and lesbian communities. Perez praised Biden for being at the “forefront of transgender equality,” which the former Vice President called “the civil rights issue of our time.”

He blocked an award for Jimmy Carter that (I think) Argentina wanted to give Carter.
Trump said "This is not the proper time".

And I'm not LGBT. A good friend of mine (former DNC treasurer) is, though, and he invited me. Since it is 4 days before my wife's birthday and 9 days before we leave to the USA on vacation, I had to pass, though I would have loved to hang with Biden, Whoopi Goldberg and Tom Perez for an evening. Who knows, I may even have gotten more than 5 seconds with each of them (although I doubt it!).
