Israeli intelligence 'boiling mad' over Trump disclosure: report

Last edited Tue May 16, 2017, 11:45 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: Washington Post

Israeli intelligence officers are "boiling mad and demanding answers" after President Trump reportedly shared classified information from Israel with Russia, according to a new report.

Two Israeli intelligence officers confirmed to BuzzFeed Tuesday that Israel had shared specific intelligence with the U.S. about Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) plots to smuggle explosive laptops onto planes.

"We have an arrangement with America which is unique to the world of intelligence sharing," one intelligence officer told BuzzFeed. "We do not have this relationship with any other country."

"To know that this intelligence is shared with others, without our prior knowledge? That is, for us, our worst fears confirmed," the officer added.

Mossad has worked with us hand in hand for decades.

I am sure we have shared information with them that has prevented terrorist attacks in Israel and they have shared information with us that has prevented terrorism here.

And now they can't trust their close ally.

Israel is essential for our counter-terrorism strategy.

And it is not just Israel. Our other allies might not want to share information either.

We have an intelligence gathering agreement with the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand called Five Eyes.

New Zealand doesn't allow any nuclear materials into its territory, extending out to their statutory maritime boundaries. The US refuses to confirm or deny the presence of nuclear materials on its warships. So...every few years the New Zealanders get pissy about it and refuse to let our ships dock in their ports, and in return we refuse to share information with them.

You mean it was Israel's intel that First Asshole was sharing with the Russians??!! I didn't know that 'til just now.

That's bad. Way bad. Israel is our most important ally in terms of middle east intel. They've got in-roads.

If Dems were in the majority and were 1/100th this careless and corrupt, the Cons would be all over this and looking for sedition charges.

I can't believe what's going on. I just can't believe that 75% of the country isn't asking for his head loudly right now. People have forgotten what betrayal looks like. And the Repubs aren't going to remind them - like they would if things were the other way around.

I hear ex-POTUSes get to have some insight into classified intel even after they're out of office. I wonder what Obama's getting and what he thinks?

On edit:

I almost forgot - Republicans are motherfuckers.

I think Netanyahu and the Likuds loved the idea of a Trump presidency. American presidents have been the useful idiots of Israel for 50 years. But Trump, would be the king of useful idiots. Frankly, I'd like to see the friendship with Israel end. It is a friendship that has cost us dearly.

I hope somebody tells him just how dangerous that is. I DON'T want him assassinated so he can be a martyr; I want him out of office and in prison, completely humiliated.

Meanwhile, former Massad officials speak out:

Shabtai Shavit, who led the Mossad in the 1990s, said that were he in charge of the intelligence organization today, he would not be inclined to share more information with his American counterparts.

“If tomorrow I were asked to pass information to the CIA, I would do everything I could to not pass it to them. Or I would first protect myself and only then give it, and what I’d give would be totally neutered,” Shavit told The Times of Israel in a phone interview.
(snip)
Another former head of the Mossad, Danny Yatom, said Israel should penalize the US over Trump’s leak because his acts could endanger Israeli sources.

“We need to punish the Americans, it’s possible, so that we don’t put Trump in a position where he is again tempted, we need to abstain from transferring information to him, or to only give him partial information so that he can’t endanger any source,” said Yatom, who headed the spy agency between 1999 and 2001.The Times of Israel

and what could that mean for US policy. The only three things I can think of are:

1) For Trump not to make the decision to keep the capital in Tel Aviv. In the next two weeks, he has to make that determination because of legislation that Congress passed back in the 1990s that called for moving the capital to Jerusalem, unless US national security was better leaving it where it is. This will further inflame the middle east and Trump actually thinks he can make middle eastern peace.

2) For the US to add back sanctions removed in the Iran Deal - pulling the US out of it. Note that where this may sound like a Republican goal anyway, Israeli intelligence is said to prefer that deal stay in place.

3) The US drops any discussion of the settlements - other than apologizing for Obama's UN abstention and Kerry's speech. Maybe throw in threatening sanctions on any country that has any type of BDS policy. Again, this will anger the Arab world.
