Lawmakers are making clear that they have no intention of carrying out President Trumps proposal to decrease funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the nations medical research agency.
In a hearing Wednesday, Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) the chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee overseeing NIHs budget said he was disappointed to see the White Houses proposal to cut NIH by about $5.8 billion in its skinny budget for fiscal 2018.
Im concerned that the reductions in the request would stall progress that our recent investments were intended to achieve and potentially discouraging promising scientists from entering or remaining in biomedical research, Cole said.
NIH Director Francis Collins said that at a White House meeting last week, industry leaders made clear that cuts on the level the Trump is proposing could hurt the country's standing in medical research.

(12,448 posts)Dump doesn't care about the country's standing, only his own. He doesn't care about the country, period. He can throw out all the "make America great" hats he wants, but he's made that very clear.
