James Comey agrees to testify in public hearing

Former FBI Director James Comey has agreed to testify in an open hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Chairman Richard Burr announced Friday.
"The committee looks forward to receiving testimony from the former director on his role in the development of the Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian interference in the 2016 US elections, and I am hopeful that he will clarify for the American people recent events that have been broadly reported in the media," Burr said in a statement.

Richard Burr of North Carolina said in a statement.
Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the panel, said Comey's testimony would help "answer some of the questions that have arisen since Director Comey was so suddenly dismissed by the President."
Comey's testimony was sought from numerous congressional committees after news broke last week that he had written a memo stating President Donald Trump had asked him to drop his investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

The leadership of the Senate Intelligence Committee said it will schedule the open hearing after Memorial Day. The Committee looks forward to receiving testimony from the former Director on his role in the development of the Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian interference in the 2016 US elections, and I am hopeful that he will clarify for the American people recent events that have been broadly reported in the media, Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), the chairman of the committee, said in a written statement.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.

(28,787 posts)i watched the hearing back in the gwbush days. it was amazing...the sad thing was that nothing came of it. valerie plame, torture, lies told to start a war, political hiring and firing for non-political positions, hatch act violations, on and on.
i believe with all my heart, if the crimes of the gwbush administration had been prosecuted as they should have been, we would not be here today. the republicans were emboldened. here on DU we like to say IOKIYAR as a sort of wry, sarcastic way to acknowledge the crimes they get away with. but apparently they believe it and have acted on it. time for it not to be okay whether it's a republican a democrat or any other affiliation.

(15,512 posts)because one way or another Trump will find a way to monetize this. He's probably cutting a deal right now to sell broadcast rights to the Saudis.
p.s. I kind of think that nut-job business didn't hit the headlines just as Trump was jetting off by accident.
