Ossoff Decries Super PAC Ad That Ties Him To Kathy Griffins Gory Trump Photo

Source: TPM

Georgia Democrat Jon Ossoff’s campaign pushed back Thursday on a new ad from a Republican super PAC that stretched to tie Ossoff to Kathy Griffin, who kicked off a firestorm this week when she was photographed holding a bloody likeness of Donald Trump’s head.

“Jon Ossoff believes what Kathy Griffin did was despicable and for Karen Handel’s superPAC [sic] to say otherwise is a disgrace. Karen Handel should immediately demand this ad be pulled before any more children have to see these disturbing images on TV,” Ossoff campaign spokeswoman Sacha Haworth said in a statement.

The 30-second spot from the Congressional Leadership Fund, a conservative super PAC aligned with House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), began airing on Thursday as part of its $6.7 million campaign in the U.S. House race in Georgia. The ad begins with images of protesters lighting cars on fire and smashing windows before showing images from Griffin’s gory photoshoot, for which she has apologized.

“Liberal extremists have gone too far,” the narrator says in the ad. “Now a celebrity Jon Ossoff supporter is making jokes about beheading the president of the United States.”

Every poll has him ahead, and Hillary just barely won the district in the first place.

I agree with you, it'll be close.

But I still think Ossoff has the edge, especially since he almost got 50% in the first round, and that was back when Trump and the Republicans had higher approval ratings.

Adlai Stevenson ran for President in 1956 and the following quote is often attributed to him but has not been conclusively demonstrated as his:

{excerpt}

In 1956, I heard Adlai Stevenson make a very impassioned and beautiful speech, after which an overzealous reporter jumped up in the back of the room and said, “Governor Stevenson, if every right-minded person in the country votes for you, you’ll be President of the United States.” And Stevenson’s remark was, “I’m sorry. That’s not enough. I need a majority.”

I have no idea which people in specific you are pointing at.

Seriously, the problem here is that Ossoff had nothing to do with Griffin's idiotic, despicable action. Handel and the PAC should apologize for connecting him to her.

I completely get that I need to follow my own values. What she did was disgusting and it gave the right a story to whine about rather than covering Trump ceding our leadership in the world or his very probable collusion with Russia.

If anyone I knew had defended any of the many right wing photos that suggested lynching Obama, I would have lost all respect for them as a person. There are limits to free speech, not to mention free speech does not mean no one can use their free speech to say something is out of bound.

You do have the right to defend her - just as I have the right to say what she did was harmful.

for giving the right something that disgusting too. I was personally offended when rightwingers posted disgusting things about Michelle and Barack Obama. I think every Democratic politician should distance himself or herself from Griffen. Yeah, hard to be a pariah, but this shows that her thoughtlessness can hurt us.

Her absolutely pathetic use of every excuse in the book ignores that all she had to do was ask herself, would she have considered this within bounds if done by a right leaning comic to President Obama. I bet her answer would have involved words like racist. I hate Trump - a very strong statement that I actually never said about any previous President, though I detested the policies of many.

In a time where we control no branch of Congress, no Presidency, a minority of state capitals, we need to work hard to regain support. What she did was hand Trump the best present he got in weeks. The media spent a morning - not speaking of the imminent climate change decision, the ties to Russia, the likely perjury of the AG ... they talked about this incredibly lame attempt at humor -- and I vaguely remember this is not her first controversy.

Read about her press conference - she is absolutely blaming everyone trying to argue that this was not so bad. In fact, IT WAS.

We liberals expect people to "get it" about a ridiculous ad but these superpacs have learned how to brainwash people in these ads and cast doubt on the opponent.

Like the SF values cracked me up. SF is a city of rich people now. And the hippies left in the 70's.

they will tie them together. She tweeted in support of Jon Ossoff.

It's not a popular sentiment here in DU but potential Dem candidates need to put distance between themselves and her FAST because of this brain dead stunt.
