Trump Slams 'Politically Correct' DOJ for 'Watered Down' Travel Ban

Source: The Daily Beast

President Trump on Monday slammed his own administration’s travel ban as “watered down” and “politically correct.” He tweeted, “The Justice Dept. should have stayed with the original Travel Ban, not the watered down, politically correct version they submitted to S.C.” Then, “The Justice Dept. should ask for an expedited hearing of the watered down Travel Ban before the Supreme Court — & seek much tougher version!” The weekend attack in London—in which seven people were killed and 48 others wounded—seemed to be behind Trump’s renewed passion for the ban, which would halt travel from six predominantly Muslim countries. The initial version of the ban included seven countries; Iraq was later omitted from the proposal. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals was the latest to uphold a nationwide injunction against the ban last month, saying the executive order “drips with religious intolerance, animus, and discrimination.” Trump capped the tweetstorm by also finally settling the debate over what to call the executive order, after he and his team for months refused to call it a “travel ban.” He posted, “People, the lawyers and the courts can call it whatever they want, but I am calling it what we need and what it is, a TRAVEL BAN!”

Trump Criticizes His Justice Department Over ‘Watered Down’ Travel Ban

President wants DOJ to ask Supreme Court to review initial executive order

President Donald Trump criticized his hand-picked Justice Department leaders on Monday, tweeting that they erred in asking the Supreme Court to review a “watered down” version of his order banning some Muslims from entering the United States.

On Thursday, the Justice Department formally asked the high court to allow a Trump-signed executive order banning entry for individuals from six Muslim-majority countries to be put in place. DOJ officials also requested that the justices determine whether Trump’s entry policy is constitutional. Several lower courts have ruled against constitutionality.

In the wake of Saturday night’s terrorist van and machete attack in the heart of London, the U.S. president took to social media almost immediately to push for his travel ban. He argued it would provide an “extra level of safety.”

Trump, who rises early and watches morning news shows, was back at it on Monday morning. The social media posts have been referred to by lower court judges, and some of the president’s top aides reportedly have counseled him to avoid the very kind of tweets he posted Monday morning.

He tweeted that Justice officials should have stood by the “original Travel Ban, not the watered down, politically correct version they submitted to S.C.”

3. Trump's Travel Ban violates the 1st amendment end of story. It is a religious test.*

Clearly this is important to one of his central goals of suppression of civil rights on some level

Otherwise he'd drop it and let the courts play it out

does he have the number of someone in his DOJ, maybe he can call them. They have to take his call. Or have a meeting about it. He can make them come to meetings, they work for him.
