Day before Georgia vote, Trump tweets support for Handel

Voters in Georgia’s sixth congressional district should “vote now for Karen” Handel, the Republican running for the vacated seat, President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter Monday morning, or else risk bolstering a Democratic party insistent on blocking the White House’s policy agenda.

“The Dems want to stop tax cuts, good healthcare and Border Security. Their ObamaCare is dead with 100% increases in P's. Vote now for Karen H,” Trump wrote online Monday morning.

Voters in the Georgia district vacated by Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price will go to the polls Tuesday to elect either Handel or Democrat Jon Ossoff, who holds a slim lead in the Real Clear Politics polling average. With Democrats eager to win a seat previously held by a Trump cabinet member, millions of dollars in outside money has poured in and the campaign has evolved into the most expensive House race on record.

Tuesday’s election will settle a race that nearly ended last April when Ossoff fell short of the 50 percent threshold he would have needed to win Price’s former seat outright against a large field of GOP opponents. When Ossoff fell just short, a runoff election was triggered against Handel, the top Republican in the race and second-place finisher overall.
