Eric Holder joins the anti-Trump resistance and mulls a presidential campaign of his own
Source: Yahoo News
LOS ANGELES More than two years after leaving the Obama administration, former Attorney General Eric Holder is reentering the political fray.
His goal: to lead the legal resistance to Donald Trumps agenda and perhaps even run against the president in 2020.
Seized by a sense of urgency to oppose Trump and restore what he regards as Americas best self, Holder is mulling a White House bid of his own, according to three sources who have spoken to him and are familiar with his thinking.
Up to now, I have been more behind-the-scenes, Holder told Yahoo News in an exclusive interview about his plans. But thats about to change. I have a certain status as the former attorney general. A certain familiarity as the first African-American attorney general. Theres a justified perception that Im close to President Obama. So I want to use whatever skills I have, whatever notoriety I have, to be effective in opposing things that are, at the end of the day, just bad for the country.
Now is the time to be more visible, Holder added. Now is the time to be heard.

(10,279 posts)putting our neighbors and relatives into foreclosure? Oh! I remember now. He was the Attorney General at the end of that period, perfectly poised to mop them up. But he did nothing. If he does campaign, I look forward to hearing why he did not prosecute any banksters. And, no he can't take credit for the few prosecutions made against banksters not on Wall Street. Regarding his offer to be the DEM legal lead against Trump's crimes, I wish he would defer someone else with a vigorous attack record. Please, Eric, stand aside.

Meanwhile harassing and incarcerating whistleblowers skyrocketed.

(27,800 posts)He worked hard against voter suppression (and behind the scenes), albeit without much headway, and did this after he was out of office.
He did work on behalf of the Obama administration, though - I don't think he could go after the banks on his own. I think they are both rather cautious men.

I say - go for it.

(3,148 posts)The author just assumes he's interested in a presidential run because he wants to be more visible. The only part of the article that references Holders future plan is his idea to organize the legal resistance to Trump policies.
This article is a prime example of what's wrong with Liberals. We are focusing way too much and way too early on 2020. We haven't even won the 2017 Governor's races in VA and NJ.
