Tropical Storm Cindy forms in the Gulf of Mexico

Source: Miami Herald

Tropical Storm Cindy formed Tuesday afternoon from a sprawling messy system rolling across the Gulf of Mexico, raising the risk of dangerous flooding along parts of the U.S. coast, forecasters said.

The system, located about 265 miles from the southeast coast of Louisiana, is expected to dump six to nine inches of rain along the central Gulf coast, National Hurricane Center forecasters said in their 2 p.m. advisory. Some areas, including the Florida Panhandle, could get up to 12 inches of rain, raising the risk of dangerous flooding. A foot to three-foot storm surge is also possible for parts of the coast.

The storm, with sustained winds of 45 mph extending 205 miles, had stalled Tuesday afternoon but was expected to begin moving to the northwest at about 10 mph and near the Louisiana coast late Wednesday.

In flood-prone parts of the Gulf coast, so much rain could have dangerous consequences. A no name storm last year dumped 20 inches of rain across southeastern Louisiana in just 15 hours. At least 13 people died and more than 140,000 homes were damaged.

I'm located on the west side of the likely path, but It is close enough to prepare.

Go ahead and soak the ground Cindy.

It's been raining all day here in Fort Walton Beach, FL. I don't mind a bit.

Pensacola checking in. Went to bed with rain, woke up to rain, drizzling at times, pouring buckets at times. Forecast says two more days of the wet stuff. ☔️☔️☔️ Our back yard is starting to resemble a jungle. Gonna need a machete if this keeps up!

I cut the yard just ahead of the rain, but it's still going to be nuts when it all ends.

I'm just glad to see the rivers getting back to normal levels (although they might go beyond normal pretty soon).
