President Trump has just spent $133,000 in taxpayer money buying himself a bunch of new furniture in the White House and hes only been in office for five months already.
The news comes as the Trump administration has come under increasing pressure for his frequent trips to Trump-branded properties, trips that reportedly cost $3 million per visit.
Its not completely uncommon for presidents to spend money on new furniture additions; but heres an interesting statistic: Trump has spent twice as much as former President Barack Obama did during the same time frame ending in May, who he claims was spending the country into oblivion.
Federal procurement records for the Executive Office of the President show that through May 31, Trump spent $133,053.95 on office furnishings versus the $51,204.25 clocked by Obamas office during his first five months on the job.

Another interesting fact: Trump ordered a Kittinger custom conference table, THE SAME ONE Nixon had.

(12,581 posts)And most of the day to day furniture in the White House is not meant for someone who probably has close to the mass of President Taft.
Also, most of the furnishings probably need to be scaled to make him look more "presidential".
Average office furniture for government senior managers (i.e., GAO contract provided Staples or Costco executive office furniture) is built to be comfortable and scaled to look "good" for someone around 5'11/200 lbs.
The high end stuff built to the actual specification of the office holder becomes more expensive the further out of normal specs the person is. And from what our facilities guy has said in the past, only someone who is disabled, extremely tall, extremely short, or otherwise needs accommodation to do their jobs effectively can special order office furniture via the Government.
This is one of the ways Congress-critters get in financial ethics trouble - someone who is average health and build putting in a purchase order for expensive specialty furnishings instead of either buying what they want on their own dime or sticking to the allotment the GAO provides for them.
On edit - even Bariatric or made to order furnishings should not cost as much as he's "spent" - even if he went with one of those high-end Spanish or Italian furnishing companies. He's got a furnishing budget to live with, and it seems that he's gone over it some - unless he forgot that Melania (or Ivanka) are supposed to order the official White House Fine Dining Set (China, Silverwear, and Glassware for 500...) designed for official meals and events, and spent the White House household budget for the year on his personal comfort items.
There's a minimum of $100K right there.
