Trump floats possibility of removing "very bothersome" special counsel Robert Mueller
Source: Raw Story
The president appeared Friday morning on Fox & Friends, which he urged his Twitter followers to enjoy, and discussed the investigation and the Senate bill to overhaul health care coverage.
Trump complained that Mueller, who served as FBI director under presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, was close friends with his predecessor, James Comey, and had hired Hillary Clinton supporters to join his investigative team as special counsel.
There has been no obstruction, there has been no collusion, Trump told Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt. There has been leaking by Comey, but there has been no collusion, no obstruction and virtually everybody agrees to that, so well have to see.
I can say the people that have been hired are all Hillary Clinton supporters, he added. Some of them worked for Hillary Clinton I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous, if you want to know the truth from that standpoint.

(7,521 posts)Ooh, he's being so subtle and sly! I bet he's having a big ol' chuffle at how genteel he believes he's coming off.
He sounds like a wannabe evil supervillain in an electronic rotating chair.
However, 45, is nowhere near as piquantly well-spoken as Dr. Evil.
Our pResident is the "margarine of evil".

(4,673 posts)country needs it. Can we trust a special commission would then be appointed, led by Mueller et al?
Would it really bring 45 down? So many outrageous things keep happening that I take nothing for granted. And if it did, would we be worse off with a more effective Pence?

(26,060 posts)in that there is "no obstruction" instead of just no collusion. He's trying to plant that into his weak minded supporter's minds. There's PLENTY of evidence of obstruction - the tweet where he tried to intimidate Comey, for instance. He's such a slug.

(26,060 posts)They're a lost cause. We need to focus on the other 63% of Americans. We need to work on those who wanted to give him a chance for whatever reason and now regret their vote.

(43,062 posts)then his admonition there had "better be" no tapes is directed at any tapes Comey made
and it's even more intimidation and almost a threat.

(128,516 posts)The continued threat to remove Mueller suggests "obstruction". The "meetings" and contacts with various investigative bodies about active investigations involving yourself and your associates and requesting they drop them, including one with the U.S. Attorney for SDNY (who was subsequently fired after being told he could remain after he refused one of those "calls" suggests "obstruction".

(128,516 posts)That is Bannon's strategy. They have nothing to lose until they do finally lose so they are enjoying the chaos and ill-begotten gains as long as they can.

(16,423 posts)And that's the problem. Trump thinks that things like truth and facts depend on the viewpoint.
There's facts. And then there's alternative facts.

Republicans, especially Ryan and McConnell would fail to act and will probably back Trump by saying Mueller's investigation was partisan.
There would be no impeachment proceedings because our current Republican Congress is Party First.

The blindest, truest Trump believers are being fed a steady diet of "obstructionist/evil/violent" liberals in the most blatant case of projection by their Dear Leader.
And, as Alec Baldwin counseled Kathy Griffin, Republicans are very, very good about playing victim. Trump is running with this theme and using all the tried and true buzzwords to rile up his crazies: Obama, Hillary, "evil liberals".
If he fires Mueller, his Believers will be convinced that Trump is doing the heroic thing by defending himself from ugly liberal attacks in his quest to MAGA.
We've seen these unbalanced people in action: Death threats against Dem candidates, lynching threats against a Black congressman raising the topic of impeachment, the murder of people defending against a racist's attack in Portland.
Mueller and his team are hopefully looking at the impact of starting to bring this corrupt, widespread cabal - with their carnival barker frontman - to justice.

My entire adult life, starting in the early 90s, I have seen the slippage with right wing rhetoric getting more and more traction and honestly is has gotten exponentially worse since the country saw fit to elect BHO.
They been pretty bad for a long time now, but we are now well past the threashold where I can see any drawback.
As bad as it is, I can't see how it does not get much worse.
As you noted, 1/3 of this country is flat out living in an alternative universe, and the "middle" 1/3 is so muddled they believe half the crazy shit their 1/3 screams.
