Turkey to stop teaching evolution theory in high schools: education board

Source: Reuters

Turkey is to stop teaching Darwin's theory of evolution in high schools, deeming it controversial and difficult to understand, a senior education official said, a move likely to alarm secular Turks.

Critics say President Tayyip Erdogan and the Islamist-rooted AK Party are undermining modern Turkey's secular foundations by pushing a conservative agenda, including tighter regulation of alcohol and other restrictions, since coming to power in 2002.

A chapter entitled "Beginning of Life and Evolution" will be deleted from the standard biology textbooks used in schools and the material will be available only to students who go on to university studies from age 18 or 19, Alparslan Durmus, head of the national education board said in an online address this week.

"We are aware that if our students don't have the background to comprehend the premises and hypotheses, or if they don't have the knowledge and scientific framework, they will not be able to understand some controversial issues, so we have left out some of them," he said.

And both of them hate and despise women. Erdogan thinks women are breeding livestock and that women should not be in the workplace at all. Hard to tell if the below hate speech came from Erdogan, or from RumpenFührer's 2nd in command, Mullah Pence:

Women should be prohibited from the workplace:
"A woman who refuses motherhood by saying, 'I work,' is in fact denying her womanhood."

Women should be prohibited from the workplace, part II:
"No formula or anything like that. At least for a year and a half, and an average of two years, we will raise our kids with only mother's milk."

Women should be prohibited from the workplace, part III:
"A woman who refuses maternity and gives up housekeeping faces the threats of losing her freedom. She is lacking and is a half [a person] no matter how successful she is in the business world.”

Women's sole function is to breed:
"Family planning, birth control, these are not things that a Muslim family should consider."

Women's sole function is to breed, part II
"One (child) is bankruptcy. It is the bankruptcy of the nation. Two is standing in place. Three will sort of carry us forward. So we need four or five."

My wife was physically unable to give milk about 6 weeks after both of my kids were born. We think it was because of the diabetes. Without formula what are my kids supposed to have done? Starved to death? Utter backwards stupidity, to put it mildly.

Bollocks!

It makes it hard to keep people locked into subservient religiously advanced herds.

Stop teaching anything...become a backwater burg of idiots and fools and when you are starving and dying by the millions, don't bother asking anyone who holds a classical education in high esteem for help. Get on your knees and pray for deliverance or start sacrificing virgin goats or each other.

I have had enough of fucking religion and religiously based asshattery. If you hold stock with that line of thinking - IN ANY MANNER - then you are part of the problem and should be held accountable. Religion is the only thing that can make good men do evil things. Enough of it already, cast it off or watch the world consume itself...

In order for Turkey to become an EU-member, it would have to change its laws to adapt to european legal standards and regulations. But Turkey is steadfastly refusing to change anything while demanding that its membership-application continues anyways.

Scientific cooperation was one of the few fields where Turkey had adapted the standards at all. Changing the curriculum towards non-scientific ideas like creationism won't be helpful at all.

Most rural people have the background to comprehend evolution, if their heads weren't filled with that 6K year old earth nonsense.
Heck, my 5 year old grandchild can comprehend the evolutionary process.
Micro-level evolution is easy to teach to a young child; the average Tweenager should be able to handle most Macro-evolution principles - even if they are forced to live by the local gospel.

What Erdogan wants is a gullible, easily lead country full of childish adults that will listen to him as they would Daddy. If he can get away with outlawing education, he would.

It can't stand up to critical thinking or much of anything. The truly dumb has to silence people and push the religion on other people in order to maintain it.

The day Religion is wiped out will be a great day.

It is done to make people think all important things have been discovered and then laid out in this big plan. They are given this idea and way of life that tells them that there is no need to question others in authority (so-called).

The day you give up this profound concept and idea to question others is the day you are a waste of protoplasm
