Trump on health care impasse: Repeal Obamacare now, replace later

Source: Politico

President Donald Trump, who has previously said that he would prefer Obamacare be repealed and replaced at the same time, reversed course Friday morning, suggesting instead that the process of undoing the health care law could be broken up.

“If Republican Senators are unable to pass what they are working on now, they should immediately REPEAL, and then REPLACE at a later date!” Trump wrote on Twitter Friday morning.

Trump’s suggestion somewhat mirrors one raised Thursday by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), one of the conservative lawmakers who opposes the current Senate GOP repeal-and-replace bill because it does not go far enough in undoing former President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. While Paul and others oppose the legislation on conservative grounds, another handful of more moderate GOP senators has voiced opposition because the bill’s cuts are too severe.

The solution, suggested by Paul and seemingly backed by Trump on Friday, would be to split the bill into a “clean repeal” that the entire GOP caucus could support

I frankly have been shocked they haven't dusted off that bill and put it forward. Every Republican who fails to vote for it now is a hypocrite. If I was McConnell that would be how I would twist the arms of the Republicans in the Senate that refuse to vote for it.

to my healthcare or the healthcare of my elderly parents? Before, it was about hatred for anything Obama. Now, Obama and Obamacare is far more popular than the president/GOP, they do not have public support or the support of enough senators.

Only four Senators have cover. Kennedy (LA), Strange (AL), and Young (IN) - all who replaced Republicans.

Collins at least has been consistent in her no.

Kirk who voted no was replaced by a Democrat.

They had 52 votes before (Collins and Kirk voting no). They lost two seats, but one was Kirk's.

I would get on the airwaves and run ads against any Republicans who did not support the 2016 legislation (that is if I was the Koch fueled faction of the Republican party).

because all they had to please was their base, and there was a decent human being in the White House that everyone knew would veto any repeal. Now, there is an orange child in the White House that will sign the repeal, and the reps know that if they actually vote to get rid of it, they have to face the wrath of the voters. So they are a little gun shy about getting rid of it.

tldr: They are cowards.

It would be an act of political suicide...millions would lose health care right off the bat...kids would be kicked off of parental insurance as well.

He acts on impulse and is Commander-in-Chief of the largest military in the world. If he behaves like this with foreign adversaries, he will start World War III. Oh, just REPEAL Obamacare immediately, what could possibly go wrong?

WTF, does he think these threats will get Dems and so-called moderate Repugs to vote for the death bill currently in place? Is he truly that crazy? Of course, he threatens constantly, and doesn't follow through, like the criminal lawsuit not filed against Comey. However, we do know that he's nuts and that vengeance is his top motivator after feathering his own nest and pleasing Putin. Does he really think he can absolutely kill the ability for tens of millions of people to get healthcare next year and not pay a price? Is the Russian hacking so pervasive that he and Repugs have already won in advance? If he does what he's threatened in this case, it will pretty much prove that Russia did actually hack the machines and the FBI just refuses to investigate because - Sessions.

like after we win the house and Pelosi is speaker.

Why don't they just send him some unofficial piece of paper renaming the ACA to Trumpcare and let him sign it in front of the cameras. Deplorables should be fine with Trumpcare
