LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Tourists and locals alike were among the more than 100 people waiting in line at one Las Vegas-area dispensary Saturday as Nevada became the latest state in the U.S. with stores selling marijuana for recreational purposes.
Minnesota resident Edgar Rosas Lorenzo on Saturday flew with his family to Sin City for a wedding. But even before he checked in to his hotel, he stopped at a dispensary on the Las Vegas Strip.
Lorenzo, 21, said he learned of the legalization of recreational marijuana in Nevada while he was at the airport waiting for his flight to depart. He drove with his sister and soon-to-be brother-in-law from the rental car facility in Las Vegas straight to the dispensary. They waited in line about 40 minutes before he could buy one-eighth of an ounce of marijuana and hemp wraps.
"It was worth the wait. I'm going to come get some more tomorrow," Lorenzo said after paying about $60 in cash at Essence dispensary. "It helps me sleep. I get back pain. I have a slipped disk."

(7,627 posts)Buying it in nevada is now legal, however I very much doubt that he will be able to board his plane and fly home with it especially when its illegal in his state other than for very few and specific medical reasons.

(7,769 posts)TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other drugs. In the event a substance that appears to be marijuana is observed during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer.
Whether or not marijuana is considered legal under local law is not relevant to TSA screening because TSA is governed by federal law. Federal law provides no basis to treat medical marijuana any differently than non-medical marijuana.

Still, some passengers, especially on domestic flights, take the risk, because searching for marijuana is not on the T.S.A.s to-do list.
The agency focuses on terrorism and security threats to the aircraft and its passengers, a spokesman, Bruce Anderson, said. Airport screeners are looking for things that can take down an airplane, like guns or explosives, not marijuana, he said.
But if screeners do notice marijuana in someones carry-on or checked luggage, Mr. Anderson said, they will call in local airport law enforcement officials to deal with it.
Of the 54 million passengers who went through Denver International Airport in 2015, the T.S.A. stopped just 29 for possession of marijuana, an airport spokesman, Heath Montgomery, said. In those cases, as long as the amount was legal for personal possession in Colorado one ounce of dried flower, for example the local police simply asked the flier to dispose of it, either by throwing it in the trash or taking it home. All 29 complied, and no tickets were issued.

(21,624 posts)To pay anything more than $30 is highway robbery - $20 if you don't mind a lot of seeds.

(16,369 posts)As someone who has lived through this ludicrous prohibition and in a state that will never ever legalize pot even for medical use, I don't mind the prices at all.

(21,624 posts)Some of us are just more sensitive to it, I guess. My friends, for instance, used to call me the one-hit wonder.

(16,369 posts)Don't get me wrong I've smoked plenty of ditch but back in the day every once in a while we'd get a hold of some well grown hydroponic and it was always a nice treat.

And at worst, one always has a rooftop (may not be advisable though!).

(21,506 posts)But I have been able to consistently buy 1/8 for $25 pretty much any day as long as I go with the strain on sale. That was with a medical card though not sure what prices are without one. My card is due for renewal if prices are reasonable without one I will skip renewing it.
For example I get texts like this daily..
BONUS BUY! Grape Valley Kush by Shango (27-30% THC) at $35 (1/8). OGKB shatter at $30/g! While supplies last. -MedizinLV

(1,973 posts)15% wholesale tax (paid by cultivator)
10% retail tax (at point of sale)
+ whatever the local sales tax is (Las Vegas-8.25%, Reno-8.265%)

(3,056 posts)Medical use just got reduced to the regular sales tax amount here in Clark County, which is something like 8.25%. Rec use is I believe, 18.25%, with the extra going to the school system. It literally changed yesterday, so I'm not 100% positive on the percentages, but I'm pretty close.

(1,542 posts)In January, the Sun brought answers to readers questions about recreational marijuana. Since then, some legislative measures have been passed to update and develop framework for the new industry for the next two years and beyond. Heres an updated version on the industrys newest set of laws..

Note: getting caught toking in public gets you a $600.00 fine... no toking in the casinos or hotel rooms... just FYI..
Have fun..!!

(1,973 posts)because they can be consumed anywhere with very little risk of drawing attention
unfortunately, casinos have the same "fear of the feds" that the banks have with the federal law being what it is

(1,542 posts)..says that a lot of folks vape the herb... I don't know much about vaping... he claims that he vapes at the tables with no smell, etc.
I'm sure like you say.. it's going to be pretty hard to police and enforce the regulations...
As a tourist to Vegas, I would opt for the edibles... maybe try vaping.. but I would certainly be leery of buying some smokable then venturing down a side street off the Strip or Downtown for a quick toke... the street people are getting bolder... they know that almost every person walking past them has an amount of cash on them... then add stash to the mix and the threat or temptation elevates...
