Four years ago, then-Sen. Barack Obama made his vice presidential choice public by sending a mass text message to supporters. On Tuesday, Mitt Romney's campaign announced it will make its announcement through a smartphone app.
The campaign launched an app called "Mitt's VP" which will send the news straight to a smartphone using push notifications and then allow the user to easily spread the word on social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
"The first official way to learn the name of the Republican Vice Presidential candidate is by using our new 'Mitt's VP' app," said Romney's digital director, Zac Moffatt, in a statement. "Users of the app will be the first to get the news on the biggest political decision of the year through an instantaneous alert on the one device most people carry around the clocktheir phone."

It never ceases to annoy me that so many people use the term "America" interchangably with "USA." Once again arrogance by implying the US is the only country in America.

(19,458 posts)Have they learned nothing from all of their previous fails? The Amercia thing wasn't the only one... I need a good mittVP hashtag for twitter, I have a few of my own suggestions.
And do they really think that any VP choice, short of David Beckham, is going to make a difference? If your entire campaign is resting on who is taking the #2 spot, then you have a CANDIDATE issue. That is completely pathetic.
""Users of the app will be the first to get the news on the biggest political decision of the year through an instantaneous alert on the one device most people carry around the clocktheir phone." Wow.. again. Your candidate sucks rocks if THIS is considered the "BIGGEST political decision of the year!" Sad, sad, sad.

(On edit) It is free. But even free apps carry advertising -- or donation requests, don't they? At least Obama PAID for his text message!
P.S. I'm off the hook -- it's not compatible with my Android!

(10,749 posts)An ad-supported app that carries Obama for President advertising. OFA should be lining up that advertising right now.
Do you mean Frito Lay for Vice President?
Do you want to send an e-mail to Bachmann Pretzel?

And given the way Romney's campaign is going, the app will either crash the phone or have a virus.

(21,484 posts)Which part of the U.S. populace probably owns the fewest smart phones? The poor. Romney's campaign may not even have thought of this, and perhaps I'm making too much of it, but it seems to me that it's another way he's saying the poor do not matter. My two cents.

(10,857 posts)Once I worked in an office that took up a couple of floors of a high-rise just outside of DC. Virtually everyone in the office was a Washington Wizards fan, and all of those people were fans of the team's excellent matched set of guards, Gilbert Arenas and Larry Hughes.
One day the other mailroom lads and I were cooling our heels around the work desk when from upstairs we heard voices yell, "NOOOO!" Then farther down the hall upstairs, and around the building, "NOOOO!"
Then the elevator chimed and people on our floor started shouting it. Finally, guy burst in to the mailroom and shouted, "they just traded Larry Hughes!"
And we all cried, "NOOOO!"
Listen for the reaction when this stupid app announces Mitt's pet rich white male Ivy League-er. I bet you'll hear it, and I bet it will be either, "huh?" or "NOOOO!" My money is on the latter.

The loss of privacy isn't worth it, IMO, even if you are a RMoney supporter.
