Trump making last-ditch effort after health bill collapse
Source: Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) President Donald Trump says its probably time to just let Obamacare fail after the latest humiliating heath bill collapse in the Senate. Still, hes making a last-ditch effort to find some way to revive his partys seemingly failed efforts on the bill.
Trump stayed largely on the sidelines as Majority Leader Mitch McConnell struggled unsuccessfully to round up support to make good on the GOPs years of promises to repeal and replace former President Barack Obamas health care law. But with McConnells third and final effort on a repeal-only bill looking like it, too, had collapsed, Trump urged McConnell to delay a make-or-break vote until early next week.
And the president invited all GOP senators to the White House for lunch Wednesday to discuss a path forward.
Trump pulled a similar move in June after McConnell fell short on his first health care effort, and it yielded no apparent results. Indeed Trump seated himself between two GOP senators Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska who announced Tuesday they would oppose McConnells efforts to move forward with the latest bill.
Along with opposition from a third GOP senator, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, that was enough to kill the legislation. McConnell can lose only two votes and still move forward in the closely divided Senate.

Maybe it's time for Dr McCoy to give Capt Kirk the news.

Who can defend the heartless inhumanity and lack of empathy in this bill?

(61,675 posts)their behavior makes me wish a very expensive illness, like cancer, happened close in their families and that they had to look at the bills, see how inadequate their health savings accounts are, and realize that bad things can happen to anyone.

I agree that this is not cool yet......it will take a lot of pain and suffering by most Republiscum's families or the elected official themselves to get their collective heads out of their asses and realize what harm they have done.

(4,483 posts)They've all got excellent health coverage, and many of them have become very rich besides. A horrible medical emergency would cause a blip for them financially but would never make them wonder how the poor would handle it.
They are all sold to large campaign donors who don't want high taxes to pay for healthcare for the rest of us, and that's the only constituency they care about.
