BALTIMORE (AP) — A Baltimore officer's police powers have been suspended after defense attorneys released a body camera video that they said shows an officer planting drugs.

Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said at a news conference Wednesday that two other officers were put on non-public-contact administrative duty.

The video released Tuesday by the public defender's office was taken during a drug arrest in January. It shows an officer placing a can in a trash-filled lot as two other officers look on, then activating the camera and returning to pick up the can and pulling out a plastic bag of white capsules.

The cameras save 30 seconds of video before they're activated.

Some cops just never learn- you don't plant evidence on camera and get away with it. Rustynaerduwell Jul 2017 #3

I watched a narc testify in court once and he got tripped up testifying that he busted the guy with more cocaine than he turned in for evidence. When confronted with this under cross examination he said he held some out to pay an informant. He said it was standard practice. The groans in the courtroom were very audible.

Now if he just shot the suspect he'd have gotten away with murder

The Baltimore Police Department has suspended an officer and two others have been placed on administrative duty after the public defender’s office released a video Wednesday of what appears to be a Baltimore police officer planting evidence at the scene of a drug bust.

According to the Maryland Public Defender’s Office, the roughly 90-second video was recorded on Officer Richard Pinheiro’s body camera on Jan. 24 and shows him planting a plastic bag in a can and hiding it under trash and debris as the other officers stand by and watch before they walk back to the sidewalk.

A few moments later, after Pinheiro activates the body camera and audio is recorded, the officers can be seen walking back over to the location as the officer who planted the plastic bag picks it back up and pretends to “find” it.

“I’m going to check here. Hold on,” Pinheiro can be heard saying on the video as the officers laugh.
