Rand Paul Agrees With Trump: Sessions Shouldn't Have Recused Himself

Source: Talking Points Memo

By NICOLE LAFOND Published JULY 20, 2017 10:44 AM

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) came to President Donald Trump’s defense on Thursday.

In an interview in the New York Times Wednesday, Trump told the paper he would not have hired Jeff Sessions as attorney general if he knew that Sessions would ultimately recuse himself from the Department of Justice’s Russia investigation.

“You know, I think the President has a point, because the thing here is if everybody is going to recuse themselves just for incidental contact, I think you don’t get really good governance,” Paul said in an interview on “Fox and Friends,” the President’s favored morning news show. “I believe that Jeff Sessions’ contact with the Russians was incidental. In the usual duties of being in Senate, and it being incidental, he should have stayed in the fray and been more supportive of the President.”

Paul went on to rail against Sessions for his actions enforcing asset forfeiture policy, which he says gives the attorney general the power to disproportionately take property from minority and low-income people.

“I think we shouldn’t take people’s property without conviction. This is something I believe very strongly in, and I’m disappointed that Sessions is going after a lot of poor minorities to take their property without due process,” he said.

He didn't recuse himself because his contacts are incidental. He did it because he's up to his eyeballs in it, and hopes to find some deal in the future to avoid Leavenworth

He misses the point because he's going along with Trump's claim that the investigation is about Russia and not about Trump or his crime family, which is, of course, nothing more than a fantasy of Trump's.

I like what he said about asset forfeiture policy though. Just as a supermarket tabloid will sometimes let a fact slip through, so can the most evil member of congress occasionally let a good statement slip through.

that's says government should stay out of everything.

Maybe this jerk should go back to school and read the Supremacy Clause and why and how it was put into the Constitution.

And then if he can get up to speed from a being an ass to a complete ass****, then read the Virginia Plan, New Jersey Plan, The North Carolina Plan

Corruption when it comes to being in the Trump Administration. The Press should have a field day with this scoop.

From Trump's refusal to divest from his holdings or create a blind trust, or his claim that as president he doesn't have any conflicts of interest, or the never ending ethics waivers, to Shaub's resignation as the head of the Office of Government Ethics, Trump set the tone for his administration to break with standard ethical norms that previous presidents have adhered to.

Rand Paul is obviously not following this Russia matter closely. He doesn't give a flip. He's all about money.

He's supposed to support the CONSTITUTION.

Sessions recused himself because HE WAS A CENTRAL PART OF THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN and the FBI IS INVESTIGATING THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN.

Rand is as big a hypocritical fuckwit as his father. Both claim to be libertarians but work to pass draconian anti-abortion laws that would take away the most basic liberty from half of U.S. citizens: the right to control one's own body--from which all other liberties flow. If you believe women should be forced to give birth against their will, then you are a sexist authoritarian, not a champion of liberty.

Go fuck yourself, Rand.
