A federal agency has ordered Wells Fargo to give a whistleblower her job back, along with $577,500 in back pay and damages.
The whistleblower was working as a branch manager in Pomona, California, when she was fired for reporting misconduct related to the bank's fake account scandal, according to findings released on Friday by the Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Wells Fargo "terminated the employee turned whistleblower in September 2011 because of concerns raised that the bank's private bankers were opening customer accounts and enrolling customers in bank products without their knowledge, consent or appropriate disclosures," OSHA said in a press release.
Federal law prohibits banks from retaliating when an employee reports potentially unlawful activity. ........................

Wells Fargo is appealing. But more good news is that she can get her job back during the appeal (Wonder if I would want to go back??)

(32,634 posts)Most people can retire on that and not work another day.
However I can't imagine having a day-to-day job at the same company that was so evil. They'll never treat her like a manager again, so she'd be better off going to another company, hopefully in a different industry. You know, just collect the back-pay and quit the job.
Just sayin'

things there will never be the same
you can attach a monetary value to damages, to a lost career, but you
cannot turn back the clock

(6,241 posts)Glad she got the money. But I wouldn't go back to work. $500k is enough of a cushion to go back to school or find a job in another field. WF are such bastards I wouldn't be surprised they try to screw with her.

(2,191 posts)She's working for another bank now, after working for Nordstrom for under $10 an hour for almost a year before she got that job. Her job at WF probably paid more than the current bank, since she'd been there 5-6 years. At least she has the choice.
