President Donald Trump is considering replacing Attorney General Jeff Sessions with former campaign adviser Rudy Giuliani, according to a new report from Mike Allen at Axios.
The president has publicly voiced his displeasure with Sessions, and Axios described Trumps fury directed at the attorney general after he recused himself from the Russia investigation.
Trump bashed Sessions who was one of the first Republican lawmakers to back his long-shot bid for the presidency in an interview with The New York Times last week, and took to Twitter Monday morning to ask why the attorney general was not investigating Hillary Clinton.
Following Trumps comments, speculation again ignited that Sessions would resign from his post rumors the attorney general shot down in a press conference.

(13,869 posts)I just saw that Giuliani said that Sessions was right in recusing himself. This sounds like the type of amateurish trick Trump would play to be able to claim that he doesn't require complete, abject loyalty from everyone he appoints.
He sure couldn't get a better lackey that Rudy to help him obstruct justice.

(10,039 posts)fire Mueller. Firing Mueller is what this is all about. It has little to do with Sessions.

(32,628 posts)... but so much time will be wasted while Mueller keeps digging.
Trump's time is running out and he knows it. Sessions is hanging on for dear life and I'm sure he's doing it on purpose. Sooner or later Jeffy-boy will be fired, and then Giuliani (or somebody) will pass the loyalty oath. But he still needs to be approved by the Senate and that's not a given. Especially Giuliani is not a given - they'll toast him for lunch.
Meanwhile Mueller keeps finding more stuff and it's all coming together.

"Axioss con goes far deeper than simply disguising corporate PR as journalism; it wants to redefine the very meaning of news until it is fundamentally indistinguishable from PR." (My, hasn't the Kochs' investment, Axios, become really big really suddenly? Quoted all over the place, elbowing out others.)

(128,839 posts)Ghouliani has baggage out the wazoo, although it could be because he is probably neck deep in Russia himself (notably since he was mayor when the Russian mob infested the city and his "cyber security" company was probably linked somehow to the election hacks), so he would have a reason to fight against any investigation. However he could (and should) get nailed himself.

I guess this is just about making the investigation disappear. Ghouliani is, I'm sure, willing to do that.

(86 posts)Trump would do better to nominate Chris Christie, he at least have *some* friends.
It's not a given that a Trump nominee can get confirmed in the Senate for AG at this point. No sane Democrat would vote to confirm, and any three out of {McCain, Graham, Collins, Heller, Burr, Portman, Paul, Murkowski} may really relish the opportunity to embarrass Trump.
And this is before question of Russia over Country are asked.
