Cantor comes clean, admits he didnt believe his own ACA rhetoric
Source: MSNBC
It was Cantor who helped bring ACA repeal bills to the House floor dozens of times. It was Cantor who helped spearhead defund Obamacare campaigns. And it was Cantor, we now know, who didnt genuinely believe his own nonsense.
The former GOP leader in the House talked to the Washingtonians Elaina Plott and conceded that his Republican Party is in a tough spot parts of the conservative base expect the party to repeal the ACA, because thats what they were promised in part because of promises he and his colleagues made that they never intended to keep.
Asked if he feels partly responsible for their current predicament, Cantor is unequivocal. Oh, he says, 100 percent.
....
Cantor and his colleagues, in other words, played their base for fools because they thought itd help them win some elections, which it did.

(4,341 posts)when I hear people on TV, and they did this during GW Bush a lot, that "they believe that what they are doing is correct", I say BULL, this people don't believe in anything they don't think is a direct benefit for them.
Why people think these politicians are patriots? because they wear a flag on their lapel? These are all moving as their personal agenda demands they do, they don't believe in country, freedom (least of all, only for them of course), the "American people", which is something that drives me nuts when I hear them say it "Because what the American people want...blah, blah, blah...) and now Cantor just admitted it.
These people have lost any sense of principles, consequences, they have a one track mind which is to stay in power and get rich. How does anyone make their voters understand it?

(11,589 posts)The issue I see here is that the GOP always wanted the ACA to be a wedge issue.
Now they have to act on the lies they told. They never really wanted to repeal the law, they just wanted to raise money off of it.
and now they have tRump -- those lies are coming back to bite them in the ass.
Cantor can try to run and say he was wrong -- but that will put him at odds with people like Corey Stewart -- he has declared a run.
