CBO: Skinny repeal could boost uninsured by 16 million
Source: Politico
Republicans rumored slimmed-down Obamacare repeal bill could lead to 16 million more uninsured Americans next year, according to a CBO estimate requested by Senate Democrats and shared Wednesday.
Democrats asked the CBO to score a mockup of the bill based on provisions that the GOP is reportedly considering, two Democratic aides said. The mockup included repealing Obamacares individual and employer mandates, medical device tax, community health center funding and prevention fund, in addition to defunding Planned Parenthood.
Based on those provisions, the CBO projected that the so-called skinny repeal bill would result in premiums about 20 percent higher compared to current law, according to a Democratic aide. Premium projections were not included in CBO tables released by Minority Leader Chuck Schumers office tonight.
Senate Republicans downplayed the estimate. "It's speculation written up by some (Democratic) staffers," said one Republican aide. "That's embarrassing on their part. CBO hasnt issued any new score."

(51,569 posts)How am I supposed to continue to call the zillionth senator's staffer everyday and beg them to persuade their employer to vote one way or another when I can't keep it straight from one hour to the next? I read the provided scripts, etc and have my ammo ready in case I get through on the phone, but if the Dem and Repub reps themselves don't know much more than I do (thanks to fuckfaces McConnell and Ryan) how can I sound even remotely informed and intelligent?

(92,061 posts)significantly under this "skinny plan", and that means those with pre-existing conditions would be paying even more, and most likely it would be unaffordable

(101,271 posts)for an official appraisal. If Republicans these days were capable of feeling shame, they ought to be resigning en masse for the idea of screwing with life and death without having tried to find out how many they'll kill. They're treated a bill that will be literally vital to millions of people as if it's a suggestion to go out to dinner and they're wondering whether to go to a high-end restaurant or a greasy diner.
