McConnell Unveils Bill, Would Leave 15 Million Uninsured

Source: nyt

McConnell unveils narrow Obamacare repeal bill.

Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader, pulled in his sails on repealing the Affordable Care Act, and unveiled a more narrow measure that would:

REPEAL THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE, which says that most Americans must have health insurance or pay a tax penalty.

REPEAL THE EMPLOYER MANDATE, which requires large employers to offer health insurance to their workers.

GIVE FLEXIBILITY TO STATES, making it much easier for them to waive federal requirements that health plans provide consumers with a minimum set of benefits like maternity care and prescription drugs.

EXPAND HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNTS, increasing the limit on contributions to such tax-favored accounts

DELAY A TAX ON MEDICAL DEVICES.

INCREASE FUNDS FOR COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS.

Without the revenues from the mandates, and the loss of younger participants and workers, the ACA won't function.

So for 2015, in 2016, 6.5 million paid something.

But this year early Trump told the IRS to not stress it. Now, not requiring that coverage be attested before processing the return wasn't new policy. Nobody's quite sure what laxing enforcement of the ACA mandate means. But if enforcement weakens, the ACA-related tax that's collected on the uninsured will decline.

Remember all that "prosecutorial discretion" talk that we proudly said that the president had full control over?

Yeah. Saying "don't prosecute that particular crime" is pretty much the same kind of prosecutorial discretion.

Killing Americans by the millions. Maybe they'll covertly buy some Republicans to work for them. Or already have.
