Ryan: We want to do tax reform 'better' than health care

Source: Politico

By LOUIS NELSON 07/28/2017 08:05 AM EDT

House Speaker Paul Ryan said his party has already taken a lesson from the healthcare fight and applied it to another top goal: Tax reform.

Despite campaigning for more than seven years on a promise to repeal and replace Obamacare, Republicans have struggled within their own caucus to find consensus on how exactly their own healthcare proposal should take shape. Early Friday morning, a so-called “skinny repeal” bill was narrowly voted down in the Senate, a setback that leaves the GOP with no obvious path forward that does not include negotiations with Democrats.

Ryan, in an interview with Fox Business network that was taped before the dramatic Friday vote in the Senate, said the infighting on healthcare has prompted Republicans to hold copious meetings on planned tax reform proposals so that the entire party is on the same page.

“We looked at healthcare and said let's make sure that do tax reform better and differently, so we have had exhausting meetings -- not exhausting, we’ve exhausted these points between all three branches, all three decision makers: Senate, House, White House,” Ryan told Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo. “We’ve had meeting after meeting after meeting to make sure we see it the same way and on common ground.”

I would love to remind this idiot that Atlas Shrugged is a work of fiction, and that his girlfriend who wrote that book, didn't actually start touting it as a critical political philosophy until dullards started treating it like one. It was silly fictional crap (like Animal Farm or something) that she only took more seriously because other people started acting like it was a holy book.

His empty head would explode.

FORGET the fucking "meetings". "Regular Order" means having PUBLIC BIPARTISAN HEARINGS. Bring in all the parties who can contribute to the discussion and/or who would be impacted by this legislation and DISCUSS the issues. Then have your BIPARTISAN Committee meetings where folks present some draft legislation and start the mark-ups. Finalize it, vote it out of committee, and then send it off to other Committees as needed for votes before presenting it to the entire chamber.

Otherwise you are doing nothing but what you did before which was to draft bullshit in secret and then throw it out there and threaten elected representatives to pass it "or else".

please, please, please stop returning this shitweasel to Congress. Don't you understand his agenda--to destroy any function of government that helps people, and impoverish the peasantry in order to further enrich the wealthy? My guess is--not. His voters just believe his BS about people being self sufficient and getting the evil gubmint out of their lives, or some such nonsense.

the fact this individual has done nothing, he is going to tout the FoxConn importation jobs, but it was under Obama that started that process.

This man has not brought one infrastructure job to his district, he has not done anything for high speed rail, for example..................

Eddie Munster is a loser, and he should be reminded that he is a loser, on health care, he wanted to hurt disabled people, just like this "guy" did:

He is a POS

Zero tax rate for Corporations and even those who owned rentals meanwhile they hit the rest of us with TWO sales tax increases to try and stem the loses. It didn't work,Kansas now has a budge shortfall of over 700M per year.

Thankfully hard line NEO CONS were voted out and replaced with moderates and some Dems. The zero tax rate has been rolled back--unless the new incoming Gov to replace Brokeback tries to kick start them again. It will take YEARS to recover from what Brownback did economically.

If tax reform (lower taxes for the ultra wealthy) was the unspoken part of the healthcare bill , why would it be allowed again? If ACA repeal isn't allowed because it was under the Reconciliation Act then the tax record proposed shouldn't be allowed either.
