TOKYO North Korea has taken another step toward achieving its stated goal of being able to send a nuclear weapon to the United States mainland, apparently firing another ballistic missile late Friday night. However, it was not immediately clear whether the missile was an intercontinental one capable of reaching the continental United States.
North Korea appeared to launch the missile just after 11 p.m. local time, South Koreas joint chiefs of staff said. South Korean President Moon Jae-in convened an emergency national security meeting.
Japanese authorities also reported detecting the launch, with the missile appearing to land within Japans exclusive economic zone, the public broadcaster NHK said.
The Hawaii-based U.S. Pacific Command usually confirms missile launches a short time after the South Korean announcement.

US: NKOREA LAUNCH WAS AN INTERCONTINENTAL BALLISTIC MISSILE
BY ROBERT BURNS
AP NATIONAL SECURITY WRITER
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Pentagon spokesman says the U.S. believes the missile launched by North Korea was an intercontinental ballistic missile.
That means that in theory it had enough range to reach portions of U.S. territory.
The spokesman, Capt. Jeff Davis, said Friday the missile did not pose a threat to North America but traveled about 1,000 kilometers (about 620 miles) before splashing down in the Sea of Japan.
The missile was launched on a lofted, or heightened, trajectory, limiting the lateral distance it traveled. Davis did not elaborate on US calculations, but the theoretical range of a ballistic missile can be estimated from the altitude it achieved and the lateral distance it traveled. To be of ICBM range, the missile would have to be capable of traveling at least 5,500 kilometers.

Isn't this in Jared's portfolio? Hasn't he brought peace to the Middle East yet?
I think Trump has delegated almost all military matters to the generals even though he is way smarter than them. Well, except for transgender service that is.
Come on Donnie, why isn't this fixed dude?

(16,881 posts)Jeffrey Lewis of the California-based Middlebury Institute of International Studies said the launch showed Los Angeles was within range of a North Korean missile, but that Chicago, New York and Washington remained just out of reach.
They may not have demonstrated the full range. The computer models suggest it can hit all of those targets, he said.
In a telephone conversation after the test, the heads of the US and South Korean militaries discussed military response options, the Pentagon said...
