Trump On O'Care Repeal Failure: 'It's Going To Be Fine'

Source: Talking Points Memo

By NICOLE LAFOND Published JULY 28, 2017 2:50 PM

After suggesting that the Senate should nuke its rules in order to get an Obamacare repeal bill passed, President Donald Trump signaled that he isn’t too worried about the effort to dismantle his predecessor’s signature legislative achievement.

“It’s going to be fine,” Trump said told reporters as he stepped off Air Force One for an event in Long Island, New York Friday afternoon.

During a speech that was supposed to be centered on the administration’s efforts to wipe out the MS-13 gang, Trump couldn’t help but attack Congress for its failure to repeal Obamacare, and he patted himself on the back for being “right” about the law.

“They should have approved health care last night, but you can’t have everything. Boy, oh boy. They’ve been working on that one for seven years. Can you believe that?” he said. “The swamp. But, we’ll get it done. We’re going to get it done. You know, I said from the beginning, ‘let Obamacare implode and then do it.’ I turned out to be right. Let Obamacare implode.”

They hope to sabotage it and then claim that the premise of universal healthcare is inherently flawed.

The rest of the world already has proved them wrong.

"I remember." "Yes, that's what he said." "Yes, that's right." "Yes, remember? On Day One?" "Let Obamacare implode."

"Boy, oh boy. They’ve been working on that one for seven years. Can you believe that?” he said. “The swamp".

Indeed, 99% of this so-called seven years of "work" has consisted of symbolic base-appeasing floor votes with no legislative back-up whatsoever. The other 1% has been spent crafting bill verbage on the fly, absent hearings and bi-partisan committees. The result has been a giant swamp (fittingly alluded to by Trump no less!) that has swallowed up any remaining hope that the GOP is remotely capable of governance.

...often repeated... went something like: "On Day One, we're going to repeal and replace Obamacare".

He said nothing about first intentionally destroying a program that helps tens of millions of citizens. Not on Day One. That came much later, after "who knew health care was so complicated".

Christie said on tv that's what he'd advice Trump. Accept the first failure on the HC bill and move on to other matters, rather than let that consume everyone's attention for who knows how long, and then not get anything good in the end, anyway, since everyone's so apart on it.

But Trump doesn't take advice.

The Trump team has used the ACA repeal as a media diversion while Sessions and others have been tearing down many of Obama's accomplishments and financial safeguards. Tomorrow something new and shiny will attract our attention. If Trump had followed Christies advice and move past the ACA after first denial the Trump base would probably have been able to see he was a sham. He would of been forced to do something with a possible new tax code and not able to hide behind the ACA senate battle. They would of seen he is a failure.

More that once these last 6 months, like with transgender tweet a couple days ago I have told the TV to stop following the shiny object. Maybe next time!
