President Trump will participate in his first Medal of Honor ceremony on Monday afternoon, presenting the award to former Specialist Five James C. McCloughan, an Army medic who served in Vietnam.

The 71-year-old Michigan resident is a Vietnam veteran who was injured while saving 10 others as an Army medic.

For the sake of Specialist Five James C. McCloughan, I hope it is a dignified ceremony. He deserves no less.

"The President signed his name across the medal recipient's back, then held him up in the air, displaying the distinctive autograph to appreciative applause from assembled onlookers."

In 2009, McCloughan's former platoon leader revived his Distinguished Service Cross nomination, and then-Secretary of Defense Ash Carter recommended that it be upgraded to the Medal of Honor, America's highest military honor, in 2016.[4] On 23 December 2016, then-President Barack Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017, which included legislation allowing for a waiver to the five-year time limit on Medal of Honor awards.[6] Then-Secretary of the Army Eric Fanning signed his Medal of Honor certificate on 27 December,[7] and on 13 June 2017, the White House announced that McCloughan would receive his award from President Donald Trump on 31 July, which would make him the first to receive a Medal of Honor during the Trump administration.[4]

A description of the action, praise for the recipient and others who served. No politicizing.

He did this one thing right.

He gave all the credit to the soldiers, took no credit for himself.

He was almost Obama-like.

Then again, there's that old saying about the broken clock. It was bound to happen eventually. Trump did well and actually managed not to say anything out of line for such an event.

I am glad that Specialist McCloughan received a dignified ceremony and recognition he more than deserved in his service to human life.
