Gore: 'TV news is like a nature hike through the Book of Revelation'
Source: The Hill
During a sit-down with CNN's Fareed Zakaria, Gore said that the U.S. has had "11 once-in-a-thousand-year events" in the past seven years.
"And they're now fairly commonplace," Gore said.

"And every night on the TV news is like a nature hike through the Book of Revelation, and, though the scientists have long connected the dots, the carbon polluters have mounted this lavishly funded, rear-guard action to pretend there's still a debate," he said.
"But again, Mother Nature is piercing that veil and convincing people that, whether they want to use the terms 'global warming' or 'climate crisis' or not, they can see for themselves with the evidence of their own senses that things are really changing for the worse."

(21,614 posts)Being part Italian myself, it always irks me a little when I see Italian-Americans such as herself kiss up to the GOP - when most of its voters despise Italians (particularly the tawnier, southern Italian variety such as Ms. Pirro).

(21,614 posts)The reasons vary from individual to individual, of course. But the common thread I've found in every Italian-American GOP voter I've met, is a need to feel accepted by whomever's at the top of the social totem pole.
They are generally very proud, and status to them is very important. To be lumped in with "disadvantaged" groups - i.e. people of color - is simply intolerable.
There are of course other reasons, particularly what they see as the GOP's hard-line stance against crime and on issues important to Catholics such as abortion. That crime has gone up under most Republican presidents, and down under most Democratic ones is something that doesn't seem to register with them mostly because the GOP is good at talking "tough."
But the truth is that status, the need to "prove" themselves, and the need to belong, is what motivates many to vote GOP (with many exceptions). This seems to be particularly true of those of southern Italian background (like Ms. Pirro).

Not all again, but a large percentage have that GOP outlook
Yet I bet there were plenty GOP that didn't really want to see a President Marco Rubio
or Rafael Cruz (although his religious slant may have given him a pass )

(21,614 posts)These ethnic dynamics are real; but with so many exceptions.
Such exceptions are most visible among younger voters who generally seem better at seeing the big picture and concerning themselves with real bread-and-butter, war-and-peace issues than their more dogmatic elders often do.

(4,940 posts)When He broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, Come. And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.And when the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, Come! 4Then another horse went forth. It was bright red, and its rider was granted permission to take peace from the earth and to make men slay one another. And he was given a great sword.
The white supremacists occupying our highest offices seem to want this. Are they ALL Armageddonists? So much for progress, America.

(4,584 posts)It was heartbreaking the amount of plastic debris on the beach- including a Hitachi T.V. console. Depressing.
We used to visit South Padre Island in the late 60's and it was pristine, no trash, thousands of incredible shells, blue crabs
everywhere. No crabs were to be seen, bits of shells was all we found. Even my RW brother was saddened by it all
and took to filling sack after sack full of plastic. But it was futile. We cleaned a 500 yard stretch.

I there had been tons of fires, the extremely high temperatures like you see in Europe this week, or severe abnormal flooding and storms then perhaps the environment and visuals that surrounded him would have given him a weaker argument. But of course this is also assuming he is normal, rational, and gives a shitty about anything other than himself and his money.
