Ron Johnson: McCain's Brain Tumor 'Might Have Factored In' To His No Vote

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) thinks Sen. John McCains (R-AZ) recently diagnosed brain cancer and the late-night timing of the vote might have been factors in why McCain ultimately decided to vote against the skinny Obamacare repeal last month.
Again, Im not going to speak for John McCain, you know, he has a brain tumor right now. That vote occurred at 1:30 in the morning, some of that might have factored in, Johnson said, speaking to the radio hosts of Chicago Morning Answer.
CNNs KFILE first flagged Johnsons comments.
The host asked Johnson to clarify, asking if he really thought the cancer played a role in McCains judgment call. Again, I dont know exactly what we really thought and again, I dont want to speak for any senator. I really thought he was going to vote yes to send that to conference at 10:30 at night. By about 1:00 or 1:30, he voted no. So you have to talk to John in terms of what was on his mind, Johnson said.

UPDATE
-snip-
In a statement, McCain spokeswoman Julie Tarallo said, "It is bizarre and deeply unfortunate that Senator Johnson would question the judgment of a colleague and friend. Senator McCain has been very open and clear about the reasons for his vote."

Brain tumors perhaps.. Why do voters fall for that kind of crap from their (re-)elected officials?
the operation turned back on mccains sense of decency.

(30,793 posts)Although not because he lacks a sound mind.
He is facing his upcoming death. That tends to widen the perspective as well as nudge the conscience.
He is probably thinking about his legacy now, and doesn't want to be known as the harbinger of death (like Alfred Nobel, who created the peace prize to soften his own legacy).

(14,153 posts)That as he apparently received many letters from people with similarly serious conditions pleading with him not to dismantle their coverage maybe McCain had a small twinge of empathy and conscience. Enough at least to override his usual rubber stamp mode and to vote no this time.

(64,413 posts)Here's a guy who is in an immediate position of saying to himself "Wow, it's a good thing i have health coverage because this is going to be really expensive." It doesn't take the world's most compassionate person to then think that this bill is putting 22 million people in the exact same position he's glad he's not in.
