Stepped-up rhetoric on North Korea wipes $1 trillion off world stocks

Source: Reuters/St Louis-Dispatch

Updated at 7:32 a.m.

LONDON • The damage inflicted on world stocks this week by the escalating war of words over North Korea topped $1 trillion on Friday, as investors again took cover in the yen, the Swiss franc, gold and government bonds.

With the tense mood pushing European shares down for a third day and Wall Street set to fall again, global stocks were on course for their worst week since Donald Trump won November's U.S. presidential election.

Now installed in the White House, Trump issued a new warning to Pyongyang on Friday, tweeting: "Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely."

North Korea had responded to Trump's previous promise to unleash "fire and fury," with a threat to land a missile near the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam.

Maybe this is not a secret but I think trump might have learned about this from his military advisors who he had a meeting with yesterday.

BTW--it was after the meeting that he suddenly wanted to have all countries De-nuke themselves.

A nuclear war. I live on the west coast and we'll be wiped out. I'm upset this crazy thump manifested himself in my subconscious dreams.

not realizing how it impacts everything downstream, including their shitty jobs. Hey, maybe we can bus them to California, where crops are rotting in the fields due to all the migrant farm workers being deported/scared shitless? If we can get the R's to spin this as "job creation", maybe then the deplorables will get it, after a few years of backbreaking work for $2/hour.

but only by a whisker, each. There still might be a late selloff.

A decline in the stock markets might be the one thing the plutocrats would rally around to get him to shut the fuck up for a while. War doesn't scare them, they've all got bolt holes in NZ. Losing money scares them.
