Republican lawmakers criticize Trump response to Charlottesville

Source: MSN/The Hill

Republican lawmakers went after President Trump on Saturday over his statement on violent clashes in Charlottesville, Va., with one senator going as far as saying Trump needed to call it a "terror attack by white supremacists."

"Mr. President - we must call evil by its name. These were white supremacists and this was domestic terrorism," Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) tweeted.

Gardner was joined by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in directly calling out Trump.

"Very important for the nation to hear [President Trump] describe events in Charlottesville for what they are, a terror attack by white supremacists," Rubio said on Twitter.

The article is misleading in that only a few Republicans have criticized Trump's response. The vast majority strongly support it.

White House adviser says people should stop criticizing white supremacists so much

No one is quite sure what Sebastian Gorka, officially a deputy assistant to President Trump, actually does at the White House. This hasn’t stopped him, however, from being a near constant presence in the media.

Wednesday, Gorka appeared on Breitbart News Daily, the radio show of his former employer. Gorka responded to criticism stemming from a previous media appearance on MSNBC where he said “[t]here’s no such thing as a lone wolf” attack. The concept, according to Gorka, was “invented by the last administration to make Americans stupid.”

The idea of a “lone wolf attack,” Gorka says, is a ruse to point blame away from al Qaeda and ISIS when “[t]here has never been a serious attack or a serious plot that was unconnected from ISIS or al Qaeda.” Critics were quick to point to the example of Timothy McVeigh, who was not connected to ISIS or al Qaeda and killed 168 people when he bombed a federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995.

On Wednesday, Gorka lashed out at “at [New York Times reporter] Maggie Haberman and her acolytes in the fake news media, who immediately have a conniption fit” and brought up McVeigh. He added that “white men” and “white supremacists” are not “the problem.”

1. Gardner and Scott are not on board with Conman's lowly response.

This speaks of just how horrible Trump is.

3. You know it's bad when Orin Hatch is trash talking Trump in a tweet...

We should call evil by its name. My brother didn't give his life fighting Hitler for Nazi ideas to go unchallenged here at home. -OGH

4. Good for Gardner & Rubio in calling out Trump

Too bad there's nothing but silence from the other 50 GOP senators

Trump, as usual, lacked the courage to blame those actually responsible for the injuries & deaths, namely the white supremacists.

Kick for exposure!

6. Congress should speak as one branch of government on this issue

They should hold a special session denouncing the white supremacist movement, in most concise, clear language possible. we need to know who stands where on this issue. No mixed messsages allowed.

7. Right. Wondering how many will agree,

how long it will take, and who will lead such effort.

10. All talk, no action.

It's all fake. Most agree with Trump. Ryan's statement in a tweet was almost a carbon copy of Trump's.
