Merkel condemns 'disgusting' US far-right violence

Source: AFP/Daily Star

BERLIN: German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday slammed as "disgusting" the role of white supremacists in a violent protest in Virginia and an "evil attack" against counter-demonstrators that left one woman dead, her spokesman said.

In sharply worded remarks, Merkel's spokesman Steffen Seibert expressed shock at the weekend rally by Ku Klux Klan members and other white nationalists in Charlottesvillesupremacists.

"The scenes at the right-wing extremist march were absolutely repulsive - naked racism, anti-Semitism and hate in their most evil form were on display," he told reporters.

"Such images and chants are disgusting wherever they may be and they are diametrically opposed to the political goals of the chancellor and the entire German government."

1. When Germany is telling you to tone it down with the Nazi shit, you know you've crossed a line.

Take note: Yes, I know Germany has been a progressive, highly enlightened nation for decades now, and they ban everything having to do with the Nazi Party.

Just throwing the problem into specific relief.

5. It was a given that Germany would denounce this

What I'm waiting for is for right-wing regimes like the ones current in power in Poland and Hungary to denounce it.

When a Senator from Utah is quicker to speak out than the Prime Minister of Poland, who suffered as much as any nation under the Nazis, something rotten in brewing in the EU.

Here in the US, our first amendment allows these assholes to march and speak but not to beat people or run them down with vehicles. that's what ISIS does, and apparently Trump's supporters on the alt-right. They are alt-patriots or alt-Americans.

I was stationed in Germany when I was in the Army. I loved it there. They've come a long way since 1945. I wish I was there right now...

Did you ever get one of those Reich-wing emails blasting Obama for degrading the image of the United States in the eyes of the world....?

Is there any nation on the plant not-headed by a murderous dictator that, today, will say they admire the United States? One or our neighbors? Any one of our long-time allies? Anyone...?

A total shunning in just 8-months.
