'There are no good neo-Nazis': Mitch McConnell hits back at latest Trump Charlottesville blunder

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hit back at President Donald Trump’s remarks on Tuesday in which he said there were some “very fine people” who had attended last week’s march conducted by white nationalists in Charlottesville, Virginia.

“There are no good neo-Nazis,” McConnell said bluntly. “And those who espouse their views are not supporters of American ideals and freedom.”

McConnell also emphasized that it was white nationalists who were responsible for bringing “hate and bigotry” to Charlottesville last weekend. Trump, on the other hand, tried to blame extremists on “both sides” for the mayhem.

“We can have no tolerance for an ideology of racial hatred,” he said. “We have a responsibility to stand against hate and violence, wherever it raises its ugly head.”

UPDATE:

Source: McConnell upset at Trump over latest Charlottesville comments

By Manu Raju, CNN Senior Congressional Reporter

(CNN)Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has publicly avoided criticizing President Donald Trump's remarks on Charlottesville, is privately upset with the President's handling of the episode, according to a source close to the Kentucky Republican.

Despite the immediate uproar that Trump caused by his stunning comments Tuesday where he defended some of the protestors during a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, McConnell remained silent and out of public view. But McConnell, who has a long history of working on civil rights issues, is deeply concerned that Trump is reopening long-festering racial tensions, something that could fan the flames ahead of demonstrations expected in Lexington, Kentucky, the source told CNN.

The morning after Trump's comments, McConnell released a statement Wednesday ahead of a rally in Lexington similar to the one that turned violent in Charlottesville over the weekend.

"The white supremacist, KKK, and neo-nazi groups who brought hatred and violence to Charlottesville are now planning a rally in Lexington. Their messages of hate and bigotry are not welcome in Kentucky and should not be welcome anywhere in America," McConnell said in his statement.

While McConnell did not call out Trump by name, he seemed to be alluding to Trump's statement that were some "very fine" people who attended the white supremacist rally.

from him.

What they should do would take more than just words against trump, and that I do not believe the republicans will do.

Stand up for real Mitch. Tell Trump you disavow HIM and won't work to aid and abet his agenda while you can't be sure he isn't a white nationalist.

McConnell is enjoying every minute of this fiasco. He is an evil man and would never stick his neck out unless it was for his own benefit. He's scared of the next election and his wife's job.

I wouldn't believe any word that comes out of his mouth.

I see a tweet coming...McConnell will be mentioned in it...so how is his wife going to defend this one when she "stands by her man, both of them"?

In McConnell's defense, and I do this with a lot of pain, he didn't have to mention the rat, it is obvious who he is talking about.

hate groups. Those who would buy 1,000 torches to hand out to small groups of nazis to make the protest "look more organized" more scary on medias around the world.

fox did you buy those tiki torches for that protest? fox was there live right in the thick of things from the beginning--fox usually isn't live from protests. fox ran live interviews with all the nazi leaders. Republicans, fox is your TV network. trump is your president. why are you supporting nazis?

no more flag poles or open flames except candles on city protest permits please. to many used heavy steel and wood as flag poles, they intended to use as weapons.
