ON EVE OF TRIAL, PSYCHOLOGISTS AGREE TO HISTORIC SETTLEMENT IN ACLU CASE ON BEHALF OF
Source: ACLU
NEW YORK In a first for a case involving CIA torture, the American Civil Liberties Union announced a settlement today in the lawsuit against the two psychologists who designed and implemented the agencys brutal program. A jury trial was scheduled to begin on September 5, after the plaintiffs successfully overcame every attempt by the psychologists to have the case dismissed.
The lawsuit was brought by the ACLU on behalf of Suleiman Abdullah Salim, Mohamed Ahmed Ben Soud, and the family of Gul Rahman, who froze to death in a secret CIA prison. The three men were tortured and experimented on using methods developed by the CIA-contracted psychologists, James Mitchell and John Bruce Jessen.
This is a historic victory for our clients and the rule of law, said ACLU attorney Dror Ladin. This outcome shows that there are consequences for torture and that survivors can and will hold those responsible for torture accountable. It is a clear warning for anyone who thinks they can torture with impunity.
The full terms of the settlement agreement are confidential.

Can we all file a law suit, since he is surely, and unrelentingly torturing our heart and souls?

(16,066 posts)Which means the ACLU could have settled for buttered scones and tea, for all we know! It also insures that those two malignant cysts, can continue to use their Josef Mengele practices to torture more people!!!
It doesn't seem like they had to suffer the consequences of their actions. So are they still allowed to practice psychology or keep their accreditation? Is the only punishment monetary? This outcome shows that there are consequences for torture ." I would hope that the consequences for torture would be more than financial.

And I'm sick and tired of these "confidential settlements". A crime was committed in our name and we have the right to know how these criminals will pay for it. They do not deserve any protection.

(47,275 posts)it gives others permission to commit crimes. We see it with politicians all the time. So many in the Bush administration walked away, as if nothing had happened.

For the most part, they all just went back to their normal lives, many appearing frequently as contributors or hosts on television. Hey, great time to write a book! They played with the world, as if it is their own personal board game and apparently suffer no pangs of conscience about all the death and pain they've caused.
We have set it up for this to happen again and again.
