Collins on Trump: Try again, this time be clear in condemning racism

Source: Bangor Daily News

LEWISTON, Maine — While touring an L.L.Bean manufacturing facility on Thursday morning, U.S. Sen. Susan Collins said she wants President Donald Trump to make a fourth statement on the violence in Charlottesville, this time making crystal clear he won’t tolerate bigotry.

“If you look at some of the chants, such as ‘blood and soil,’ that is a Nazi chant and to hear it is chilling in this day and age, so I hope that the president will give a very strong statement that removes any question about where he stands,” Collins said. “I do not believe that he is in favor of anti-semitism or racism or Nazis, but when he says that there were some ‘fine people’ in that group, it sends the wrong message at a time when we need leadership.”

Asked if Congress would take any action in the wake of the president’s Tuesday remarks, Collins said, “There’s certainly no grounds for impeachment based on speech — we have a First Amendment — but there is a moral obligation to speak out.”

Trump has been panned for not speaking out strongly enough on Saturday, condemning racism in remarks on Monday and on Tuesday saying “both sides” were to blame.

Obama was allowed one try on rare occasions - and zero tries on others before being eviscerated by the right...like when he said that some people turned to their guns and bibles because they lost faith in government.. WHAM!!! They slammed Obama like a car door.

But Trump - he says things that are actually bad and gets a million chances for "clarification" and re-statement. And then, when he finally says something (even if inadequate), well, that checks the box and "we should move on".

I can't say it enough: Fuck the right.

for wearing a tan suit and ordering fancy mustard. And then there was the whole beer summit thing, because he had the nerve to criticize a police man for assaulting a professor at his own home. How dare he make assumptions!

Trump can live with the consequences of his big mouth.

He had three times and the message just got worse. He is president, not a six year old child. He said what he meant and everyone knows it. No more chances, not to mention a fourth time will probably be even more racist.

Putting aside all of the Russian shenanigans that leveraged the swing states, he got elected for his racist beliefs. Racists came out to vote for him in droves because HE ALONE openly said what they so desperately wanted to hear a politician say. When a Trump supporter says, "He tells it like it is", THAT is what they're talking about.

The Nazis in this country are the core of his support, and he knows it. He is a stupid, willfully ignorant man. He cannot and will not be educated on any subject. But he knows who likes him. He knows with whom he resonates. And he will never abandon them.

And have I seen occasional 'praise' for her here? For something...

None of these republican assholes deserve any praise, trust, respect..If they were they would either get out of the party or change it. They would actually DO SOMETHING.. Not just blah, blah, blah.... in some silly tweet..

It's to cover their own butts... if he mouths the right words they can all say everything is fine here folks, move along and dupe enough of the more credulous/overly generous not to take real action about the fact that their top quasi-elected officeholder is a white supremacist - and obviously so.

Her "First Amendment" remark is inane. The First Amendment just says Congress can't pass a law curtailing his or anyone else's speech. A lot of conservatives now seem to think the First Amendment entitles their dumbass ideas to respect.

The right "no impeachment" argument is that odious speech like Trump's doesn't really fall under the category of "high crimes and misdemeanors." It's also abundantly obvious that he has committed many of those already, however, enough that if half of Republicans chose to take responsibility for this monster he could be impeached, convicted, and on his way out of that "dump" he so reluctantly inhabits.

that's just ridiculous. like unringing a bell.

if collins really wants to help she should switch parties, and bring another "liberal" republican with her. at least we could get one house under dem control.

or start the call for impeachment....

or just straight out denounce the sob.

Americans and the world already know we have a racist illegitimate president. Regardless of how he tries to spin it, he's only going to revert back to the same racist comments like he did twice already. The man is dangerously stupid.
