Democrats are throwing the kitchen sink at President Trump to protest his ongoing equivocation about a white nationalist rally and put increasing pressure on Republican leaders to denounce their partys standard-bearer in the White House.
No tool has been overlooked. The Democrats have sent letters, called for hearings, launched campaign ads and promised resolutions of censure and impeachment designed to highlight the firestorm set off by the deadly protests in Charlottesville, Va. and the presidents equivocal response.
The episode has forced congressional Republicans into a defensive crouch, caught between condemning the racist groups which organized the Charlottesville protest while taking pains not to rebuke the president, whose support they need to move the ambitious legislative agenda theyve planned to finish before the years end.
The Democrats are not making the GOPs balancing act easy. The leaders of the House minority and liberal caucuses are invoking the deadly attack on counterprotesters to pressure Trump into sacking the nationalist voices in the White House.

(7,911 posts)They are followers, they are conformists, they go along to get along. They don't think deeply about these issues, and they don't care deeply about them. The bend whichever way the wind blows, and when the wind seems to be blowing in favor of white nationalists, that's the way they bend. That's why constant public exposure to liberal ideals and the evils of authoritarianism is so vital.
Some people are dyed-in-the-wool Pepsi fans, and others are hard-core Coca Cola drinkers, but, as both companies have discovered, if they discontinue their constant barrage of advertising for even a few weeks, the other brand starts out-selling them. Most people are not committed strongly to either brand, and will buy whatever name they hear the most.
To get and maintain a majority, it's the ones that follow where ever the current leads that we need to reach. And that mean constant messaging, day in and day out. It's sad, but it's the reality of the average indifferent American.

(22,065 posts)In the beginning, it was tRUMP's TV audience, living in a fantasy world, and his constant lie after lie, after lie, after lie that enabled him to leap into the nomination for the president of the U.S. (as well as the failure of the republican party itself).
However, tRUMP and his buddies realized that it was not enough to win, hence, tRUMP's Russian buddies said that they would help him (by funneling dirty money (and more) into tRUMP's pockets (oh yeah, tRUMP's family may have helped too, but tRUMP was the one calling the shots)). Why else would tRUMP defer so much to Russia? With the way that tRUMP is protesting so loudly about there being no 'russian' connection, his actions mean that there actually are 'russian' connections (the louder tRUMP screeches, the more 'russian' connections).
Now, it tRUMP's white nationalists/neo nasty (opps Nazi)/other ilk-trolls from underneath the toll bridge.
Tomorrow who is going to be next on tRUMP's and his ilk's radars? Guarantee it, there will be another victim, then another, then another, then another, etc...
What does it take for all of our elected representatives to have a spine, step up, and say 'NO MORE!'...
