Trump Tells Aides He Has Decided to Remove Stephen Bannon

Source: NY Times

President Trump has told senior aides that he has decided to remove Stephen K. Bannon, the embattled White House chief strategist who helped Mr. Trump win the 2016 election, according to two administration officials briefed on the discussion.

The president and senior White House officials were debating when and how to dismiss Mr. Bannon. The two administration officials cautioned that Mr. Trump is known to be averse to confrontation within his inner circle, and could decide to keep on Mr. Bannon for some time.

As of Friday morning, the two men were still discussing Mr. Bannon’s future, the officials said. A person close to Mr. Bannon insisted the parting of ways was his idea, and that he had submitted his resignation to the president on Aug. 7, to be announced at the start of this week, but it was delayed in the wake of the racial unrest in Charlottesville, Va.

Mr. Bannon had clashed for months with other senior West Wing advisers and members of the president’s family.

91. Don't Think SO
Fri Aug 18, 2017, 04:59 PM
Aug 2017

Sorry I wish it was so, but I think it was more due to Trump's ego. Trump just couldn't stand that Bannon kept stealing the spotlight, and reportedly it had him "fuming" these last few days. Both Bannon and Trump are men with big egos, and while Bannon never actually wanted to be president he did want the power, and he sure knew that he was a heck of a lot smarter than Trump. Bannon's problem was that he never was quite content to remain the hidden puppet master, the role he probably had scripted for himself, but because of his own ego, he frequently upstaged Trump himself. Might also have something to do with normal frustration of smarter man knowing he's serving under a fool.

Anyway, from the sound of that interview Bannon's none too happy with Trump, and now that he's been cut loose, who knows what he's likely to do. He definitely knows dirt. And this is definitely a vile and nasty man....

Should start today I'd think, you know bannon was forced out no matter what he says about resigning.

I bet he's so pissed off at 45 that whatever he's drinking at the moment catches fire when it hits his lips ( now that's a sick image ) trumpy won't be able to keep his mouth shut and at the first hint of snark from bannon will unload a tweetstorm on him.

We should be prepared for a back and forth burning of the bridges anytime now.

It's going to be epic.

Definition of hemorrhoid per online Merriam-Webster:

" An abnormal mass of dilated and engorged blood suckers in swollen government that occurs internally in the White House or externally in the Halls of Congress. —usually used in plural —called also piles."

Okay, so I edited it a little bit....

59. How the Trump Presidency Ends
Fri Aug 18, 2017, 02:05 PM
Aug 2017

I came to this conclusion some time ago, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this assessment, but now that it seems it’s coming true, I wanted to share.

For the rest of his time in office, Trump will take credit for anything that might be positive that happens on his watch, even if he had nothing to do with it. Even if he was against it, he will pretend that it was really his idea. However, anything negative that happens, he will either claim that it’s actually a good thing or blame someone else, or perhaps try the first and then fall back on the second.

He will continue to flail about with no particular direction, claiming that everyone else is against him, that the Mueller investigation is a ‘Witch Hunt’, and that he’s the victim of the ‘Deep State’, who wants him out.

He may, in fact, fire Mueller, Sessions, or anyone else who doesn’t show sufficient ‘loyalty’. Loyalty to Trump, that is, not loyalty to the nation.

If he lasts long enough, he may start a war, though after China said it will come to Pyongyang’s aid if they are preemptively attacked, I doubt it will be with North Korea. (No bets on that one.)

In the end, as his support dwindles to the most hard-core of the hard-core of his supporters (who themselves will just become even more entrenched), he will resign before he can be impeached, pardon his entire family and a number of close allies (both inside and outside of the government), and most likely himself as well.

80. He'll only resign before an impeachment
Fri Aug 18, 2017, 03:17 PM
Aug 2017

Based on his court history, he'll fight until the trial date is imminent then settle. That way he never risks "losing".

He's addicted to attention and loves his current position of being the most powerful man on earth. Negative attention is much better than none.

The bar is set so low that any semblance of rational behavior or act of sympathy gets his polls to jump. The WH can have him reading to children in an inner city school and being Uncle Don. That's all it takes to bring him back.

He'll only resign if he knows Mueller has enough to press charges - which may be the case now - and after his recommendations go to the house to consider articles of impeachment.

We know that Trump ALWAYS declares himself the decision maker and the winner. Always. When those CEOs left that think tank group, Trump announces HE disbanded it.

I suspect Bannon is the same.

In the end, it doesn't matter, I guess. If Bannon starts attacking Trump, I guess maybe Trump fired him, so he's retaliating. Unless Bannon left because Trump didn't back him up.
