Lurid Trump allegations made by Louise Mensch and co-writer came from hoaxer

Source: The Guardian

Explosive allegations about Donald Trump made by online writers with large followings among Trump critics were based on bogus information from a hoaxer who falsely claimed to work in law enforcement.

Claude Taylor tweeted fake details of criminal inquiries into Trump that were invented by a source whose claim to work for the New York attorney general was not checked, according to emails seen by the Guardian. The allegations were endorsed as authentic and retweeted by his co-writer Louise Mensch.

The source’s false tips included an allegation, which has been aggressively circulated by Mensch and Taylor, that Trump’s inactive fashion model agency is under investigation by New York authorities for possible sex trafficking.

The hoaxer, who fed the information to Taylor by email, said she acted out of frustration over the “dissemination of fake news” by Taylor and Mensch. Their false stories about Trump have included a claim that he was already being replaced as president by Senator Orrin Hatch in a process kept secret from the American public.

It's a shame, but confirms what many suspected for awhile, that these two were full of shit.

1. My problem with them

their actions seem more about self-promotion than actually getting hidden news out. If you follow them for any length of time you soon see that many of their posts are about squabbles with others and shoring up their credibility. I found them both pretty tedious.

8. Taylor was wrong to repeat that story from an unknown source without confirmation.

But all Mensch did was re-tweet him. Not the same thing. Her reports about DT, she has consistently said, come from different sources than Taylor. Never from emails, and only from people she knows.

There is plenty of evidence (from the Daily Beasts articles and other sources) that Trump could have been involved in trafficking. This hoax could be an effort to inoculate DT from from the effects of any future stories on this issue.

9. Claude was the only one who said there were state indictments re: Trump Models

Louise said nothing about any state action.

I have no idea if they're right or wrong. But Claude said that he was told, through an intermediary, that his information was incorrect about a Schneiderman investigation into Trump Models.

Also, I haven't seen either of them claim that Hatch has replaced Trump. Louise said months ago that Hatch was being given security briefings, but I think it was in connection with being the "designated survivor" who, for instance, did not attend Trump's inauguration. The Guardian itself reported that (along with other mainstream media) https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/jan/12/state-of-the-union-disaster-plan-orrin-hatch-president
