Joel Osteen's church in Houston opens doors for donations to Harvey victims

Source: CBS News

By PETER MARTINEZ CBS NEWS August 29, 2017, 10:52 PM

Pastor Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church began taking in donations Tuesday in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey which has caused epic proportions of flooding and prompted thousands of rescues in the region.

CBS News' Omar Villafranca reported from the church's lobby, showing tables setup with various items of clothing available for those affected by Harvey's deluge. He says the outpouring of donations is "absolutely incredible."

Villafranca says that a line of volunteers stretches along the church lobby where they take a variety of items from people driving by the church to hand out to evacuees who have lost everything in Harvey's wake.

"There is a mountain of clean clothes for these people here," Villafranca said pointing to a table with a mound of jean pants.

Much of the concourse of the church is lined with air mattresses. Keep in mind this was a basketball stadium, so there are large areas where people walk. Lots of rest rooms too!

FYI, the Toyota Center (basketball stadium) and NRG Park (facility beside the football stadium) have been opened as shelters too. The owner of the Rockets has also pledged $10 Million.

nope , this is what this "church" said................

In a statement to CBS News, Osteen said "we have never closed our doors" and the church will "continue to be a distribution center for those in need." He added they are prepared to shelter people once the city and county shelters reach capacity.

So in other words when the other systems of relief are full "then:' this hypocrite will let people stay--------------how f*cking nice.
Can't do it today but maybe some time later

So Joel in this time of need how much have you given in relief on your "net" worth----------tell everyone how much you have donated IN "money"

There are several videos showing the church locked and NOT flooded with folks asking Joel the money-changer to open the doors.

Why in the hell would anybody give this turd a bloody nickel? What a fraud, a rich friggin' liar who makes his living conning people.

He ain't a real Texan. He doesn't neighbor!

He's been on morning shows trying to do damage control. He's afraid he's lost some donors.

He looked bad in the one video that I watched. Like someone who has been found out. And found out he has been. That video didn't lie. Osteen said the church was flooded; the video proved he was a liar.

I'm sick of the "prosperity gospel". Complete and utter bullshit.

pop up in arguments to spread that "church flooded" agitprop... Yeah, some 19-year-old girl who doesn't live anywhere near the church magically has multiple hi-res photos of standing water inside *some* church...

...his rubes now have more pressing things to spend their "prosperity" on... you know, like rebuilding their lives. And let's call it: the "prosperity gospel" was just a way to be greedy, self-centered and without empathy and still masquerade as a "Christian," which they most certainly are not.

No the mask has slipped a bit on Holy Joel and his "ministry." He's probably going to have to find a new flock to fleece.

There's no shortage of reliable charities available for much-needed donations for those impacted by Harvey. Thank you for your generosity, and for your good judgment.
