(Reuters) - A federal judge in Texas on Thursday struck down an Obama administration rule that would have extended mandatory overtime pay to more than 4 million U.S. workers, siding with business groups and 21 states that had challenged it.
The decision came after the same judge last year blocked the rule from taking effect pending his final decision. The Trump administration had already said it would make changes to the rule, which riled trade groups and companies when it was adopted.
The rule would have doubled to about $47,000 the maximum salary a worker could earn and still be automatically eligible for overtime pay.
U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant in Sherman, Texas, said the salary level was set so high that it could sweep in some management workers who are supposed to be exempt from overtime protections.

On November 22, Judge Mazzant issued a nationwide injunction blocking a regulation by President Barack Obama attempting to double and periodically increase the maximum salary where overtime is required.[8]
And now this. Fuck you, Mazzant.

There is also the old theory, held by some: don't work too hard or they will give you more to do.

(34,136 posts)I quit because I could not earn enough to support myself. My parents offered to pay for me to finish college so it was a no brainer once I learned I would be getting no raise and no promotion for the next two years.
The final insult was when I learned they had to hire three people to do the job I had been doing alone. Think of all the money they could have saved if they had given me that promised 10% raise after my first year!
After that I never held a job working for anyone else. I ran my own business, worked at my own pace and determined my own value.

(11,518 posts)This bullshit is a get-out-of-jail-free card that lets corporations take advantage of their employees. Every day, every week, every month, and every year more and more money is trickling up to the executive class while less and less goes to workers.
ALSO (watch out, I'm getting on a roll), it's these lower paid "salaried" workers who are most often taken advantage of and forced to work long hours for no extra pay. They often get "promoted" into "management" positions, yet for some strange reason are kept doing the same job they'd been doing all along, but with a new title. Right wingers always spout the same shit - 'those people are free to find a different job if they don't like the one they have'. That's absolutely ridiculous, people shouldn't have to leave their job just to be treated fairly.

Fuck this.
And also needing to be a server admin, network engineer, security admin, voice admin, email/messaging admin, virtualization admin, programmer, fiber and copper cabling expert, wireless guru, desktop support tech, and whateverelsecomesup admin all in one. Oh and learn it all on your own time and get certified using whatever extra money you have from your low pay.

(1,204 posts)That's like about what someone earning $23/hr would make. I made that in a shitty level network engineer level I (glorified copy and paster) position. That's like around entry-level to mid-level wages for a professional where I am from. That isn't management level pay and if management workers are making that then there is obviously a problem.
