Democrats win special election in Norman

Source: The Oklahoman.

Oklahoma Democrats added another seat to their House membership Tuesday as Jacob Rosecrants beat Darin Chambers to fill an unexpired term.

The Norman House seat was previously held by Scott Martin, who left the Legislature to run the Norman Chamber of Commerce. It is the third House or Senate seat Democrats have taken from the GOP in special elections this year alone. The minority party will have 28 members in the Oklahoma House when Rosecrants is sworn in, which could be before a special session begins Sept. 25.

Rosecrants beat Chambers, a Norman businessman and Navy veteran, winning more than 60 percent of the vote. He delivered a victory speech to a raucous crowd at the Main Street Event Center in Norman.

I am not from Oklahoma but I heard there was a special election due to the million emails I get from the DLCC.

This is the 2nd red seat we flipped to blue tonight.

seat by seat, local offices, grassroots. Democrats used to be great at this. We better do it again. This is a good start.

DEMOCRATS in OKLAHOMA than you believe, as are there in Texas. Don't know if they gerrymander the f#ck out of OK Districts as they do in Texas but it's NOT as Red as people believe

These local victories were the warning that a big shakeup was to occur in the midterms.

nearly bankrupted the State of Oklahoma. There is a huge grassroots Democratic movement going on here. So much so, that it's one event after the other. I went to a County multi- Precinct meeting and hundreds showed up. I ended up elected to a precinct position. This election happened in my county. The young man that won, is an educator. We are losing teachers so fast, due to low salaries, that half our teachers are temps, or emergency certified degreed individuals with no teaching backgrounds. People here are pissed. We worked very hard to win this latest election. Jacob Rosecrants's opponent was supported by a Betsy Devos pac. They sent out nasty mailers which only served to help us. Yea us!!

To flip a Red Seat

However, he was surprised by the lack of enthusiasm of the teacher community after he declared his candidature. He added even if he opened up to all the Democrats most of his volunteers are former Bernie Sanders’ supporters.

“I don’t listen to corporates, I don’t even listen to my own party, I listen to the people,” he said. “I want you to tell me what you want.”
