U.S. Attorney General Sessions says marijuana still illegal

Source: Reuters

SEPTEMBER 20, 2017 / 2:43 PM / UPDATED AN HOUR AGO

Sarah N. Lynch

(Reuters) - U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday criticized the legalization of marijuana in multiple states and warned that the federal law banning use and sale of the drug “remains in effect,” remarks that could stoke fears of a federal crackdown.

“I’ve never felt that we should legalize marijuana,” Sessions said in response to a question from a reporter during a press conference in San Diego announcing record-breaking narcotics seizures by the U.S. Coast Guard in fiscal 2017.

“It doesn’t strike me that the country would be better if it’s being sold at every street corner,” he said, adding that medical organizations oppose it and federal law prohibits it.

Since taking over the helm of the Justice Department in February, Sessions has made drugs, violent crime and illegal immigration his three top law enforcement priorities.

as it is illegal at the federal level.

It's unfortunate that neither major party candidate in 2016 supported legalization.

7. I'd say that would be dependent on whether that federal govt is legitimate or not

It's starting to look like we need to question the legitimacy of the McConnell Ryan Trump government.

States have the power to regulate intrastate commerce. I personally would like to see a stand-off between state police and the DEA.

16. The law is constitutional IF the product crosses a state line

If the product stays in the same state throughout its life cycle, the feds should have no say.

If the product was a gun made in Montana and sold in a Montana gun store, Sessions would be in support of not requiring BATF forms or background checks for its sale.

That worked out just great because it's basically not sold or used by anybody anywhere.

And they call marijuana, dope! The only dope in this conversation is the klansman, Sessions.

and it's becoming a real mess trying to find one that will not drug test. I have a medical card and use daily. I read on the post office job site that even though it may be legal in this state, it is still a federal crime and they will not accept medical patients' exceptions like some companies.

I wish the ACLU would take up a case for us patients about how our rights are violated against this federal b.s. law.

It's hard enough being in my late 50s looking for a job and coming up empty. ugh.

So is treachery with foreigners in a presidential election. You may be guilty of only one, and I know you don't smoke dope.

Apparently not, if it doesn't allow keeping women from getting health care, making kids pray or keeping black people from voting.
