CBS fires executive for 'deeply unacceptable' post after Vegas shooting

Source: LA Times

CBS Corp. fired a vice president in business affairs Monday for comments she made on social media regarding the mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas.

Hayley Geftman-Gold, wrote on her Facebook page that she was not sympathetic to victims of the shooting because, she claimed, most country music fans are Republican.

Geftman-Gold also wrote: “If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing. I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters.”

The comments were deleted but not before they were picked up on a number of right-wing blogs and websites. A petition was posted online that called for her firing.

63. Pretty damn hard to empathize with those who have no empathy for others

GOPers are already dreaming up theories for how the mass shooting was staged, the victims are government patsies and no doubt the minute they get called on this, they'll scream "FUCK YOUR FEELINGS!"

So fuck their feelings right the fuck back. If some GOPers lost family that night, they'll have the "pleasure" of dealing with the same conspiracy psychos they promoted and gave a megaphone to.

40. Country Music Loving Liberal

I hate guns, don't wrap myself in the flag, always vote for the Democrat on the ballot and watch Rachel Maddow. That said, I am a long time lover of classical music. But ... I also love country music although some of the newer stuff sounds more like pop music. Give me some Lyle Lovett or Ray Wylie Hubbard anytime. When I drive in the car, I alternate between WRR, the classical music station and the Range, a country music station.

16. Human life transcends partisanship, so I disagree with lack of sympathy to the victims. I agree

with her comment about the rethugs no doing anything thing when children (those of Sandy Hook) were murdered by Adam Lanza.

These were children and no common sense gun laws were put in place. If the laws didn't change for children, I don't think the rethugs will change them now.

I am against anyone other than military and police having automatic rifles like AK-47s - no need for that. If you want a single action gun or rifle for your protection or hunting, then go for it.

I read an article this morning, where America is 7.x% of the world population, but has 48% of the guns in the world. But why, oh why does anyone need 10, 20, 30, 40 , 100, etc guns. It makes no sense.

37. No, the Repub politicians are NOT going to change their position on gun control.

If they did, they would no longer be in Congress. They would die politically. Repubs are firm and definite that they'd rather have mass killings than blind people being prevented from buying guns, or than large mags of assault bullets being limited in sales, or the sale of assault weapons.

What needs to be changed are the hearts and minds of the people...knowing that 30% of the country will never change their minds.

And to come together on what the Dem Party supports. I don't support a total gun ban, and neither do most Dem politicians.

36. That's totally different,and you know it.

The first is mass murder of people, many of whom are visitors to an area.

The second is supporting policies for a Republican area that WANTS those very policies, and proactively voted for them. Although Democrats know, and knew, that the policies would actually HURT the area. Example: the new tax cut plan. That's an oxymoron...only a moron would believe it's a tax cut for the majority of Americans. It will actually raise some taxes for working class, which is a big group in some rural areas...who wholeheartedly voted for, and still support, Trump...who ran on a new tax cut plan.

See the difference? Yeah, you know the difference.

Too many people do not understand that the minute you open your mouth in public, you can be held accountable for those words. And if you happen to work for a communications company or any high-profile company, for that matter, you will be seen as their representative unless you're the janitor.

51. Someone made this observation to me. "Why don't people get things until it personally affects them"

Caleb Keefer, who survived the Mandalay Bay shooting massacre perhaps demonstrates this best:

“I cannot express how wrong I was,” Keeter admitted.

“Writing my parents and the love of my life a goodbye last night and a living will because I felt like I wasn’t going to live through the night was enough for me to realize that this is completely and totally out of hand,” Keeter explained. “These rounds were powerful enough that my crew guys just standing in a close proximity of a victim shot by this f*cking coward received shrapnel wounds.”
“We need gun control RIGHT. NOW” Keeter concluded.

“My biggest regret is that I stubbornly didn’t realize it until my brothers on the road and myself were threatened by it,” Keeter noted.

“That being said, I’ll not live in fear of anyone,” Keeter said in a subsequent tweet. “We will regroup, we’ll come back, and we’ll rock your f*cking faces off. Bet on it.”

Heather Maravola replied, “it’s frustrating that some don’t call the fire dept until the blaze is at their own front door. But we need more people on our side. Welcome.”

Keeter agreed with her comment."

https://www.rawstory.com/2017/10/country-musician-who-played-at-las-vegas-festival-reverses-pro-gun-stance-after-deadly-massacre/

Does anyone here believe that anything is going to change because of what happened in Las Vegas?

Perhaps if the outrage was directed toward those who make the laws, it would be more useful:

62. But ya know that only works one way

If it had been a rap concert, all the RW news outlets would be making cracks about it. Probably inviting some nutcase who will promote the whole "mass shootings are made up" bullshit. And anyone who called them out will get a deluge of "FUCK YOUR FEELINGS!" in response from the crowd that has defined basic human decency as oppressive political correctness.

Quite frankly, if a few GOPers DID lose family, good. Especially if they're in the fringe "everything is out to get you" set. They promoted people who harassed mass shooting victims to prominence. Alex Jones etc. They probably believe what he says too.

Now THEY will know what it is like to have their every facial tic scrutinized. They'll know what it's like to get endless hate mail calling them government patsies, saying their children never existed, etc.
