Trump touts '$300 billion' in trade deals with Asia

Source: Politico

By LOUIS NELSON 11/14/2017 08:15 AM EST

President Donald Trump touted the economic successes of his trip to Asia Tuesday, telling reporters that the five-nation tour had netted the U.S. “at least $300 billion” in trade deals.

“We've had a tremendously successful trip. Tremendous amounts of work was done on trade, not only on the deals — and we have at least $300 billion worth of deals, but that will be, I think, way triple that number in a fairly short period of time,” Trump said in remarks to the press as he left the East Asia Summit in the Philippines.

More important than the unconfirmed dollar figure, the president said, was the message he conveyed throughout his trip that “the United States is open for trade, but we want reciprocal trade.” He reiterated his regular criticism of past administrations, that they allowed the U.S. to be taken advantage of on the world economic stage.

One deal that earned specific mention from Trump is Vietnam’s $12 billion order from Boeing, one that the president said came even though “they were going a different route.” It was unclear if Trump was referring to an $11.3 billion deal between Boeing and Vietnam’s VietJet airline signed in 2016 during a visit by former President Barack Obama or if Vietnam had placed an additional order with Boeing.

3. I'm guessing that Trump

is taking credit for the $11.3 billion deal Boeing signed under Obama.

4. Billions seem to be drops in the bucket anymore.

Trillions are at stake when billions represent personal wealth and debt.

15. And, Over How Many Years?

If this ends up accurate (doubtful) but it's over 10 years, that's 30G per year which is 1/6th of 1/10th or 1%.

And since it's "reciprocal" what does the other side of the ledger show?

11. No one

can believe ANYTHING this lying POS says, ever...ever This POS is obsessed with trying to belittle his predecessor, the intelligent, classy President Barack Hussein Obama, while he will always remain a very, very little man with nothing but cons, lies, bankruptcies, 11 at last count and p...grabbing as a legacy of his entitled, white privileged life. His kids can't even be pointed to as being a better example of a human being. Fuck this spoiled child trying to be potus...total failure.

14. I think this is more accurately described as a business deal, not a trade deal.

Don doesn't know the difference.
