Monday’s news that Donald Trump Jr. had traded private messages with Wikileaks over Twitter during the campaign prompted Vice President Mike Pence to backpedal slightly on his past claims about Wikileaks’ contacts with the Trump campaign.

On Monday evening, the vice president’s office said it wasn’t “aware” of any communication at the time.

“The vice president was never aware of anyone associated with the campaign being in contact with Wikileaks,” Pence’s press secretary Alyssa Farah said Monday evening in a statement obtained by TPM. “He first learned of this news from a published report earlier tonight.”

However, in October 2016, Pence flatly denied that the Trump campaign had any connection to Wikileaks after it released emails and documents containing damaging information about then-candidate Hillary Clinton.

A theory was floated that Pence is smart enough to leave the room if Russia is discussed so he would have plausible deniability, because this isn't the first time he denied something and it turned out not to be true.

He still knows about it, but he's able to "deny" knowing.
If he didn't know, he wouldn't have left the room. Am I right?

Sessions is a different deal. He recused himself because he already knew he was in trouble.
It would have been even worse for him without the recusal, as I'm sure he's aware.
These guys are all guilty, and it just needs to be decided the degree of guilt.

I hope the 2018 sweep of Congress gives us enough breathing room so that if Trump is removed from office before he drops out before 2020 we can block a truly crazy fundamentalist true believer like Pence from rallying the GOP into a steamroller over rights and the Constitution.
