WikiLeaks to Trump Jr.: 'Our offer of being ambassador to the US still stands'

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange went public Tuesday with his pitch to Donald Trump Jr., saying his election-year offer to be an ambassador to the U.S. as an advocate for whistleblowers is still on the table.

Trump Jr. has given his private Twitter correspondences with WikiLeaks over to lawmakers investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election. Some of those correspondences leaked to the Atlantic on Monday, so Trump Jr. released them on Twitter.

WikiLeaks, which published emails stolen from the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clintons campaign chairman, John Podesta, before last years election, pushed Trump Jr. in the private messages to tweet out links to their work and to check out some of the campaign dirt that theyd come across.
Trump Jr. did not respond to most of the messages from WikiLeaks, but the contact has only added to the scrutiny surrounding the Trump campaign and possible ties to Russia.

Trump's D.C. hotel would be perfect.
Is Assange trolling Jr. ?

15 minutes later Trump Sr. posted a link to the Wikileaks story.

(60,536 posts)Wikileaks was promoting the idea of Assange being the U.S. Ambassador from Australia. They even laid out talking points for Trump, Sr. to raise with the Australian PM; one being, "he's the most famous Austrailian in the world!"

(101,308 posts)Jeez, Assange is even more of an arsehole than I thought.

(60,536 posts)I'm not certain it's that. Rachel presented it as something Wikileaks was serious about at that time so, I'm going to assume today's tweet wasn't. OTOH, today's tweet could just be Assange kicking sand on the original request for the appointment.

make a deliberately offensive or provocative online post with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them.

(101,308 posts)goes against all diplomatic practice, and it looks like Assange trying to get Junior to make a fool of himself. When the suggestion is someone that Australia, as an intelligence partner of the USA, UK etc., will loathe (and is probably embarrassed to be the home country of), it really looks like a prank. Not exactly 'trolling', I suppose, but close enough.

He must've gone batty after being housebound for so many years to think such a thing would ever be considered.
He's an apparent Russian agent and fugitive.

(16,423 posts)"Hell is other people." That proverb means that we hate to be around other people because they constantly criticize us.
But that criticism is what keeps us grounded.
For how many years has Assange now lived in his self-imposed exile? Without ANYBODY who would take him down a notch once in a while?
Poor guy has become delusional.

(37 posts)An interesting point. My hesitation in agreeing is that Assange is one of the most talked-about people on earth, and given his core contentiousness to so many, a lot of the talking that he reads, sees and hears about -- maybe even most of it -- is very negative. I'm therefore doubtful that he experiences the same kind of delusions normally associated with a solitary confinement prisoner. But I agree with you that his confinement in London does not promote his mental health in any way. He is now probably a damaged person. Personally, I can't imagine being locked up inside an office suite in a B-class office building, for years and years and years. What makes it substantially better than prison for Assange is that he seems to have total (two-way) access the Internet and to other media, and people can visit him en suite without any apparent restrictions. That's yuge.

(32,634 posts)If anyone knows Julian Assange personally, please set me straight on this. Apparently he thinks he knows Junior well enough to joke around with him. (He doesn't and this isn't funny. It's weird and pathetic.)
But Assange lives in a strange world with no real friends so he must think that strangers who read his tweets are actually his "friends." He's been a troll for so long that he doesn't know how to not troll. That's how I'm reading this, but I could be wrong.
As for Junior, it seems that he's flattered enough to receive an email from a world-famous person and he saves it in his archive. If I ever got an email from Julian Assange, I'd never see it because it would go directly into my spam file and be deleted.
