Source: CNN

(CNN)David Cassidy, who came to fame as a '70s teen heartthrob and lead singer on "The Partridge Family," has died, according to his publicist Jo-Ann Geffen. He was 67.

The singer-actor had recently been admitted to the intensive care unit of a Fort Lauderdale, Florida, area hospital. Cassidy was in critical condition and suffering from organ failure before his death, Geffen said.
Cassidy was born into the entertainment industry that made him a star.
His father was famed actor and singer Jack Cassidy, and his mother was actress Evelyn Ward.

David Cassidy or Aretha Franklin. It's that orange, hate-filled, vindictive, unhealthy living poster boy in the White House.

I had long pegged him as someone who would not beat their demons - I remember his dad, a terrific actor also plagued by addictions

I'm just glad he didn't die on the same day as Charles Manson. That would have been too cosmically weird to process.

The music was great pop music, and the comedy was pretty good, but the idea of a family traveling around in a cool painted bus preforming rock music shows, and with a cool hip mother was revolutionary. It was a slap in the face of the perfect all American family meme up to that point of the two parent family, with the doddling mother whose biggest ambition is to raise her kids and make supper.

And David played his part great. I'm sure it was a blast for him to play a teen heart throb, and then actually become one because of it. The medium is the message indeed.

The Cowsills are an American singing group from Newport, Rhode Island. They specialized in harmonies and the ability to sing and play music at an early age. The band was formed in the spring of 1965 by brothers Bill, Bob, and Barry Cowsill; they shortly thereafter added their brother John. Originally Bill and Bob played guitar and Barry was on drums. When John learned how to play drums and joined the band, Barry went to bass. After their initial success, the brothers were joined by their siblings Susan and Paul and their mother Barbara. Bob's twin brother Richard was never the road manager, although this misinformation appears in several places on the internet. The band's road manager was Richard 'Biggie' Korn.[1] When the group expanded to its full family membership by 1967, the six siblings ranged in age from 8 to 19. Joined by their mother, Barbara Cowsill (née Russell), the group was the inspiration for the 1970s television show The Partridge Family.[2]

It was my mother who started talking to him, think he was between gigs at that point and he seemed pleased to be recognized. I know he had issues with alcohol, did community service for DWIs in my neck-of-the-woods a few years back. There was a write-up in the paper about how he went above and beyond to give back.

I believe he learned from a classmate his parents were divorced, and his dad was jealous of David's success. Poor guy.
