Jerusalem protests latest: Two Palestinians 'killed by Israeli fire' in clashes on 'Day of Rage'

Source: Independent

Two Palestinians have been killed in clashes over US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, after Hamas called for a “Day of Rage” in protest against Donald Trump’s decision.

Israeli soldiers shot the two men dead on Friday near the Gaza border, the Palestinian Health Ministry said in a statement, while the Red Cross said scores were wounded in clashes across the West Bank.

The Israeli military said hundreds of Palestinians had rolled burning tyres and thrown rocks at soldiers across the Gaza border.

“During the riots Israel Defence Forces (IDF) soldiers fired selectively towards two main instigators and hits were confirmed,” an army statement said.

"The Israeli military said hundreds of Palestinians had rolled burning tyres and thrown rocks at soldiers across the Gaza border."

In this case, as in pretty much every similar case, it's unclear if this is a general uprising or a small percentage of party faithful. Or those revved up by inflammatory "sermons" during Friday prayers.

Population: 3 million. Protesters: A few thousand. Often government employees heeding calls by their employer or the most staunchly faithful after exhortation by their religious leaders. Yet it's a mass movement.

"But when you think about it, religion has never really had a big problem with murder. More people have been killed in the name of god than for any other reason. All you have to do is look at Northern Ireland, Cashmire, the Inquisition, the Crusades, and the World Trade Center to see how seriously the religious folks take thou shalt not kill. The more devout they are, the more they see murder as being negotiable. It depends on who’s doin the killin’ and who’s gettin’ killed. So, with all of this in mind, I give you my revised list of the two commandments:

Thou shalt always be honest and faithful to the provider of thy nookie.

&

Thou shalt try real hard not to kill anyone, unless of course they pray to a different invisible man than you."

than by most of his other decisions. Both the Israeli's and the Palestinians seem more than happy to continue living under the status quo.
