DNC 'unity' panel recommends huge cut in superdelegatesThis discussion thread was locked as off-topic by NewHendoLib (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum). A commission set up to help reform the Democratic presidential nominating process has voted to restrict the number of superdelegates as part of a slew of changes. The Democratic Party’s Unity Reform Commission is recommending cutting the number of superdelegates by about 400, equal to a 60 percent reduction. Many of the remaining superdelegates would see their vote tied to the results in their state. ... The recommendations will now go to the Democratic National Committee’s rules and bylaws committee, and then likely to the full 447-member Democratic National Committee for consideration sometime next year, where it will need two-thirds support to pass. “It’s not going to be about 447 people, it’s going to be about millions of people and how they pick up this challenge and this path,” said Larry Cohen, the former president of the Communication Workers of America who was appointed to this commission by 2016 candidate Bernie Sanders. 3. If votes of super delegates are tied to results of states
might as well do away with them.
Super Delegates are there 1) as a safety valve, 2) include elected officials and DNC members so they feel they are part of it. Bernie Sanders also should not be allowed to appoint anyone to any committee in the DNC. He is not a party member. |

4. If they can also get rid of caucuses as well...
It disenfranchises folks who can't take the whole day off to spend at a caucus. Also, it is just embarrassing when a caucus reaches a result that is different from the popular vote during the primaries as was the case in Washington.

7. The option of absentee voting for caucuses is one of the reforms.
Caucus raw vote tallies must be reported as well.
230,000 people participated in the Washington state presidential caucuses in March 2016. 1,300,000 voters participated in the non-binding Washington state presidential primary in May 2016. It was through through the caucuses that delegates were awarded. |

9. I favor doing away with primaries and just having a caucus
It's like the old town meetings of our founding fathers.
