In the closing days of the Alabama Senate election, Steve Bannon told people that Donald Trumps political survival depended on Trump supporting Roy Moore. Bannons argument, according to those who spoke with him, was that establishment Republicans and Democrats would use Moores defeat as a political weapon to force Trump to face the sexual harassment allegations that have dogged him since the 2016 election. Bannon called Alabama Trumps firebreak.
Last night, the flames leapt into the West Wing. Moores dramatic loss to Democrat Doug Jones in a state Trump carried by 62 percent is sowing panic among some of Trumps kitchen Cabinet. This shows the public is taking the sexual harassment issue seriously. The president has a big problem, a Republican close to the White House told me. Even before the election, Democrats renewed calls for Trump to resign for his alleged treatment of women. This week, three of Trumps accusers launched a media tour to elevate the issue. Even a member of Trumps administration weighed in. U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley said on Face the Nation that Trumps accusers should be heard and dealt with.
One Trump ally is making plans to commercialize Trumps downfall. Longtime Trump confidant Roger Stone told me he is working on a book titled The Unmaking of the President as part of a multi-book deal with Skyhorse Publishing. (Last fall, Skyhorse published Stones campaign account, The Making of the President 2016.) Ive been writing it as we go along, he told me.
Stone said he got the idea to write a book chronicling Trumps removal from office after watching how the White House responded to the Robert Mueller investigation. Its painfully obvious Mueller will bring charges, Stone said. The theory is Mueller will indict him on some process-related matter such as obstruction of justice. The only people who dont seem to know it are Ty Cobb, [John] Dowd, and the president.

On the one hand, Roger Stone is a dispicable human being. On the other hand, Nikki Haley is a formulaic publicity seeker who will simultaneously parrot Trump/Republican Hawkish talking points, but will go rogue when it comes to (1) Russia and (2) sexual harassment. Thus, Haley continues to try to position herself for a post-Trump future. This is why she will never be Secretary of State, but Trump will not fire her.

(17,387 posts)Nikki Haley grand standing and looking out for herself is not a new thing. Nikki plays right along with Trump except when it comes to Russia and sexual harassment issues where she makes it a point to distance herself from Trump just to create some plausible daylight between the two. But otherwise, she is part of the same cabal.

(17,387 posts)...between trying to act like a superhawk in terms of pro-war rhetoric while also occasionally saying something anti-Russian. This will be Haley's one tidbit regarding the sexual harassment complaints against Trump, so don't expect further comments from her as she now once again plays the role of Trump loyalist.
I am predicting that she will say something inane in three weeks about letting Mueller complete his work just so that the media can swoon over her independence.

(140 posts)I think she has been there, done that and didn't like it. Tur, also. We saw it with Brigitte Macron. This is what bothers me. We have seen Trump do it on tv, for the world to see. Grab, invade space, kiss the unwilling. He states he does just that. And we all pretend to wonder. Media included.

(18,748 posts)is "kitchen cabinet" yet another new euphemism for something awful? I can't keep up.
And apparently, editing and proofreading just aren't a "thing" anymore.

(3,426 posts)I began to suspect Trump had a plan back when he declared war on Nabisco and went on to taunt Christie about eating too many oreo cookies ! Christie who considers himself an expert at political maneuvering, no doubt saw a way into the oval office through the back door . He must have figured out early on that if Trump won, he would find a way out of it eventually because everything cannot possibly go Trump's way, and Trump cannot deal with( it) under any other circumstances. That means Christie most likely figured out that Trump would remove himself, leaving the door to the oval office wide open. Trump has all the dirt of Christie so it would stand to reason a full unconditional pardon will have been in the deal. But than Trump dumped Christie.
That brings it to the twinkie defense-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twinkie_defense
Makes sense really, explosive outbursts ,mood swings are always coupeled with periods of depression . And since Trump is addicted to Fox and friends ! So what is delusional ! Trump has been warned to stay away from that diet cola and those cheesburgers ! And of course those that warned him have all been fired ! When he said not one dime of disaster relief for California , Hoffa said he didn't profit one dime at the senate hearings.
